| The University of Colorado fired Kathy McConnel Miller after 5 seasons. The UC job is in a great location, even though the pay has not recently been that great compared to some other Big 12 coaches. Illinois State head coach Robin Pingeton and former Drake Assistant Linda Lappe are two of the names considered potential prospects for the job in this writer's mind: http://www.buffzone.com/ci_14817370

| Here's an update on the search at CU: http://www.buffzone.com/ci_14834584. The fact that Lappe is the leading candidate for this job tells you something about the CU women's hoops budget. She has a pretty good record at a D II school, but has never even won a conference championship as a head coach.

NORMAL -- Illinois State's Robin Pingeton has been hired by the University of Missouri as its next women's basketball coach, The Pantagraph has learned.
Pingeton, who was the Missouri Valley Conference coach of the year this season for a second time and led the Redbirds to the semifinals of the WNIT, will be introduced at a 10:30 a.m. press conference Thursday in Columbia, Mo.
The women's basketball offices at Redbird Arena were empty this afternoon. Pingeton, 41, is expected to take assistants Randy Norton, Willie Cox and Jenny Putnam with her to Missouri.
Pingeton was 144-81 in seven seasons at ISU.

| That Pingeton got the Mizzou job does not surprise me; I started hearing about this at the Big 12 tournament. It is interesting that she is taking all 3 of her assistants with her. I hope that one of them has recruiting ties to the Kansas City area, because there is a ton of talent there. However, much of it hasn't gone to Mizzou in recent years, instead often opting to attend other schools in the big 12 conference like Texas A&M (e.g. players Danielle Adams, Tan Smith and Tyra White are all from the KC area; Adams was JUCO player of the year a few years ago and was a star in the Big 12 tournament this year, which A&M won). Even Mizzou Men's basketball coach's daughter, Yvonne, plays for another Big 12 foe, Texas.
Pingeton's Redbirds easily beat Kansas in Normal this year in the quarter-finals of the WNIT, which is probably enough reason for some Mizzou fans to want her coaching the Tigers.
I'll miss Cindy Stein's sense of humor. She wasn't the winningest coach in the Big 12, but some of her quips were pretty funny.

| Lappe is going to be announced as the new head coach of the CU Lady Buffs on Monday. She's the first former Big 12 player to be named head coach of a Big 12 Women's bball team. What a great honor for her and a big responsibility, too.
