| I am guessing that doesn't bode well for someone in their 5 year of a 6 year contract?????

| Are players definitely leaving, or is this speculation? Which players?

| If you are going to post something like this, shouldn't you back it up with some facts or details?
Don't pass up the shot. |

| I see your point, Drakey, but I also think this could be an internal leak from the athletic department. In any event, I am left wondering how it helps any student athlete to see this suggestion that some are leaving posted. I can see how it would harm them, especially if people start naming names.
As for the other issue raised here -- the coach being on year 5 of a 6 year contract -- that is public information, so I have no problem with that. After the conference record this season, and losing some decent half-time leads that resulted in losing some games, I doubt any new extension will be announced this spring.

Well, if that's the case, that would make Amy a lame-duck coach next season......never a good situation for anybody. Makes it darn near impossible to recruit.

Speculation like this certainly can't benefit anybody. A lot of boards have specific rules against this kind of speculation, because of the potential harm that can be done.

| Are you referring to my speculation about the source (which in my mind is fair game, given the use of an alias by the poster), or about players leaving?

Hmmm, well, hypothetically speaking, she could get an extension next year, yes? And I think the recruits are "in the barn" for this fall. But you are right, being perceived as having lame duck status could certainly hurt recruiting for those who would be freshmen in the fall of 2011.

Sorry to be unclear. I was talking about the speculation (about players leaving and coach's status) in the initial post. There was certainly nothing wrong with the speculation in your post. I only quoted your post because I was agreeing with your point about the speculation not benefiting anybody.

Gotcha. Thanks.
Well, if there is going to be a coaching change, now would be a really good time to make an announcement for about four different reasons.
First, there are a lot of coaching vacancies now, and more will be announced in the next few weeks. Here is a list that shows most of the coaching vacancies at colleges and universities around the country: http://www.wbca.org/CoachingChanges.asp. Some have been filled, but there are a lot of vacancies.
Second, and this is a maybe, but Pingeton may be gone from ISU, and if that happens, another good MVC job comes open, and so that means more competition for coaches with mid-major ambitions who want to be in the midwest.
Third, if we wait too long, we will almost certainly have to go with an interim, which hurts recruiting.
Fourth, and completely unrelated, students are registering for fall classes now, which means that at least some of them are making decisions now about what they will be doing in the fall. If armchair is right, and women are leaving, it seems conceivable that some might change their minds and stay if a coaching change is made.
