Scout Link (Premium)

This says Drake is pursuing Will Yeguette, a 6-7 forward from Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Fla. Scout gives him 3 stars, and ranks him as the 44th best SF prospect. He's drawing interest from some BCS-conference schools, and has an offer from SIU. This is what Scout says about him:

Hard-nosed forward who relies on his motor for success. Can rebound his area and in traffic. Could be a mid-range perimeter threat in college. Pursues basketballs hard and is tough to account for. Classic undersized, blue collar forward.

If that's true, sign him up.

This story has a little more about him. He's from France, and it looks like his last name might be spelled Yeguete. He said this about where he wants to go to school:

“I want to go to a good school with good academics. I am willing to go anywhere: distance is not a problem for me. I am looking for a place where I can get playing time early in my career.”

Good academics? Check.
Somewhere in the US? Check.
Playing time early? There will be 7 soph's and 3 frosh (as of now) on scholarship next year, and Drake will need to replace Templeton and Eaddy in the post. If he's good enough, he'll play.

If there’s ever been an undersized guy worthy of an extra look, we give you Will Yeguette. The 6-foot-7 power forward out of Melbourne (Fla.) Florida Air Academy, pulled down 50 rebounds in a three camp games last October. College programs are always grinding, in search of that blue-collar, hard working forward with a nose for the basketball. Yeguette, who has enough perimeter in his game to be a mid-range threat in college, smells exactly like “that guy.”

Sounds exactly like the kind of player we need to fill some gaps.

I think Drake would be a near perfect fit for him. I also read he wanted to go to a school he would be able to grab some early playing time. If he's the real deal like most recruiting sites say he is, PT won't be a problem.

There's a local newspaper interview with Yeguete. He says the thing he needs to improve on most is his shooting. He's had to get used to the physicality playing in the US. He's taken official visits to Sam Houston St. and St. John's so far. He sounds like he'd be a great pick up for Drake.

With his strong rebounding, Will sounds like he would be an exact fit for our last schollie.

Will sounds like he'd be a super addition for the Bulldogs. Here is his espn evaluation. I couldn't read all of it because I'm not an insider... maybe someone else can.

September, 2009: Yeguete is an athletic power forward with good hands and is a quick vertical leaper. He can finish at the rim before some players leave the floor. He runs the floor extremely well and finishes above the rim with a clear path to the basket. Yeguete scores mostly on...

With the Bulldogs losing AT and his incredible desire on the boards, this is just the kind of guy the Bulldogs need. I hope he watched the game tonight on ESPNU.

Hey Will: Hope you watched on the "U" last night.

If not, you need to get a copy of the tape.

From what I read about you, this is YOUR style of ball, Bud!

Push it, great effort, team play, on the floor, whatever it takes.

You sound like a Piece of the Puzzle that would be VERY nice to have.

Make the commitment. We want YOU!

Just DU it!!!!

Fun article but your poll question is backwards. What do you mean can Drake compete in the recruiting with the other schools looking at him? No. 1 recruiting class in the Valley last year. Number 1 in the Valley recruiting class this year. A stud junior tearing up the floor in Arizona for 2011. I want to know if those schools think they can compete with Drake.

This young man sounds interesting. Appears to have knack for a gap we have, especially with AT leaving.

I say 'Welcome to Drake Will!"

September, 2009: Yeguete is an athletic power forward with good hands and is a quick vertical leaper. He can finish at the rim before some players leave the floor. He runs the floor extremely well and finishes above the rim with a clear path to the basket. Yeguete scores mostly on face up drives from the high post area and from athletic offensive rebound tip ins. Yeguete competes for rebounds and does a good job pursuing the ball in or out of his area. At the end of drives Yeguete likes to shot fake in order to raise the defender in order to score or draw a foul. He does a great job using his length to be affective although Yeguete needs to add strength to be a better back to the basket scorer. He has good upside and is one to watch this high school season in the state of Florida.

May, 2009: Yeguete is a fantastic-looking athlete who is capable of playing either the small forward or power forward position at the college level. He has the ability to step outside and knock down the open 3 pointers or take his man off the dribble to the basket, Yeguete is more suited to play the wing, but he is also extremely active around the basket grabbing loose balls and using his physical style of play to handle the rough play in the paint. On the defensive end, Yeguete's length can give smaller guards problems making passes. He must continue to improve his jump shot to make him a constant threat from outside, and he will need to improve his ballhandling a little more to handle pressure situations at the college level.

April, 2009: Yeguete is a versatile wing forward with a good frame. He's not overly athletic but solid. He plays with a good basketball I.Q. and passes the ball well. He's active on the offensive end, works to get open and for rebounding position. He's a willing rebounder on both ends of the floor. During the tourney he showed the ball skills to play inside-out. He was very good from 15' and in, breaking down zones from the high post. Shoots from the elbow or drives to the basket. He doesn't try to do anything he can't do, just fits into the system. Defensively he is capable of guarding multiple positions. He understands his length and how to use it against smaller, quicker players and not get exposed. Overall Yeguete is a good solid player, his statistics won't wow you. His value on the floor is that he knows how to fit his game into the goals of the team. The combination of his versatility, ball skills and I.Q. make him a valuable asset.
