For some reason both the Drake vs. SIU & Evansville vs. Creighton games tip at noon (central time) today. SIU does a thing every year where they give out tons of tickets to local elementary schools and have an afternoon game for the event, that may be the reason. Don't know if the other game was moved so all teams get the same amount of rest or just a coincidence.

In any event, the Bulldogs ought to be able to take care of business today. SIU had a complete meltdown over 2 years as former coach Eikenberg was on her way out the door. Many defections, bad blood, filling the ranks w/ transfers.... Misty Tiber is in her first year and seems to have a more positive vibe going, but they are shorthanded. Managed to beat Evansville at home, but that accounts for half of their wins. Played a weak non-conference schedule and only picked up 1 win.

Tiber brought Stephanie Neptue with her from her prior team (DII) and she seems to be making an impression. Only 4 players from last years squad remain and they averaged 57 of 200 minutes available in each game last year.

They are coming off their first conference win and any team that hasn't given up can be trouble, but this one should be one the Bulldogs can dominate beginning to end. I'd like to see some of the young players get some experience minutes today.

1st media time out 6-6.

SIU's Oliver has a couple of 3's. Drake has scored in the paint.

11:45 media TO. SIU 19-10, SIU is raining in the 3's and Drake just isn't firing on all cylinders either on O or D.

Under 8:00 media TO. SIU 28-20.

Getting into the flow of the game a little better.

Hackbarth is playing well. Jordan just got started. 6 TO's already. SIU getting to the line because the D is reaching instead of moving their feet.

McSparron continues to improve and get more comfortable on the court.

3:36 media TO. SIU 33-27, Plummer at the line shooting 2

Defense has started to step up, seem to be playing more crisply. Rebounding better, sticking to the game plan better. Team fouls have evened out. SIU has 7 3's already.

Little home cooking. Clock operator let the clock run after SIU airballs end of the half shot. Head official catches it.

SIU takes a 37-34 lead into the half.

Ugh!!!

Drake comes out of half time and gets things all tied up at 42, then implodes. SIU goes on a 12-0 run and goes up 54-42 before Mo finally breaks the drought.

Stinking it up playing SIU's game plan.

Last media TO. Drake down 72-58, stick a fork in it, this one is done. Only thing left is the final score.

Not surprised a team with a lot of youth stinks it up on the road, but it shouldn't be to this team. Ow!

Final 80-60.

Hackbarth played a good game, that was the only bright spot. Just plain UGLY.

DU loses 60-80. Awful, awful loss. The offense was okay, but there's no excuse for giving up 80 to SIU.

CU beat SIU 84-62 yesterday. Not that it excuses the loss, but it sounds like SIU got a big boost from their crowd against DU:
"We've been Drake's travel partner forever, so we're used to them winning a lot of road games," said Creighton coach Jim Flanery. "That score and that film really grabbed our attention and got our kids focused."

SIU beat Drake, 80-60, on Thursday, but the Salukis were unable to match that game's intensity against the conference leaders.

"It was definitely a big change," said SIU's Katerina Garcia, who finished with nine points and four assists. "Having those little kids there, we came out so excited to play. (Saturday) we were excited to play, but you could tell it was different."

The Salukis (3-12, 2-3) had 1,000-plus less fans in attendance Saturday compared to Thursday's Field Trip Day
