According to a tweet from tropicalshox (technically a retweet ), Drake was in Kansas City last night to watch Dillon Starzl. Starzl is a 6-8 post from Kearney, Mo, a small town outside of Kansas city.

Watched some of his game last night on tv. The tallest guy the other team had was 6-3. He did have at least 3 dunks that I saw & looked like a pretty skilled player. This is great basketball to watch as they have 21 games between Kansas vs Missouri teams in both boys & girls. Kreklow is playing on Saturday against a team out of Wichita that has a 6-11 sophomore that is being recruited by everyone in the country already.

81, per ESPN

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=101116&season=2010&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncb%2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d101116%26season%3d2010

July, 2009: Starzl is a physically strong player with a wide shouldered frame that, unfortunately, lacks explosiveness. He uses his body well on finishes around the basket and has good fundamentals with the use of shot fakes around the basket. He needs to develop a low post move and greater comfort...

I think this young man would be an excellent recruit for Drake. I have not seen him play, but he's regarded as one of the top players in the Kansas City area. From the picture of him in this morning's Kansas City Star, he appears to be both long and strong. I think he would fill out the front-court rotation nicely if Coach does not go with a juco.

Here's another mention:

Dillon Starzl, C/PF, Kearney- He had a long football season and is likely just rounding into shape. Didn't seem to matter as he torched KC Harmon for 26 points and nine rebounds while going 12-15 from the field. He's a big and strong kid with soft touch and the ability to go up and dunk it on defenders when the opportunity presents itself. He had Drake, UMKC and Columbia in the building to watch on Wednesday night.

The Kansas City Star named Dillon as the player of the week. He is one of the best, if not the best, big men in the KC area. I think he would be a good get for Drake.

Here's a February 5th comment on a MoSports.com board, from someone claiming to be his uncle.

He plans on playing basketball only in college and currently has offers to do so from Jewell, Drake, Northwest, Truman St., and Rockhurst with UMKC showing interest.

There will be plenty of opportunity to earn minutes on a young and very talented Drake team next year. So if that is a factor, we could certainly use another stud at the 4-5.

Tomorrow has arrived and the sun is up.

Dillon scored 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in leading Kearney to a 46-31 victory over Republic in a Class 4 state semifinal game yesterday. Dillon is now listed at 6-9. He looks much stronger than any of our freshmen, with the exception of Uhlenhopp. But Dillon appears much longer than Reece; body build reminds me of Bucky as a junior or senior.

Starzl is now being listed as 6'9". His mother and his aunt both had very nice shooting touches. His uncle wasn't too bad either. His mother helped lead Kearney to 2nd place at the state tournament back in 1986. Without ever seeing him play, I'd expect he would need strength, but I'd also expect him to make a high percentage of his shots and be good on the foul line.

Starzl sounds like a solid player. Good luck to him in the state final, which I think is going on right now.

I have a feeling that Dillon could be playing for the Bulldogs next year.

Should I name my next Bulldog puppy Starzl? We've been leaning towards Dolph.

That depends on whether there's mutual interest for Starzl to come to Drake. I'm pretty sure he could step in and contribute here as a freshman.

In light of the fact that Kearney's nickname is the Bulldogs, I think that Starzl would be a very appropriate name for your next puppy.
