"It is an honor for Drake University to host the 2011 and 2012 NCAA track and field national championships," said Sandy Hatfield Clubb, Athletic Director at Drake. "The record attendance coupled with the positive feedback that we received for hosting the 2008 NCAA meet contributed to Drake receiving strong consideration to host future meets. Our gratitude goes out to the NCAA selection committee."

Hopefully the ground will be a little drier than than in 2008.

The track was fine. It may have rained a little of one day. There were no problems with weather in the running of the meet. The problems with the flooding were elsewhere.

I would still prefer that we not have serious flooding issues. It probably didn't help attendance, and it definitely pulled attention away locally.

2008- NCAA Championships
2010- US Outdoor Championships
2011- NCAA Championships
2012- NCAA Championships

Let's land another US Outdoor Championships or two and then the US Olympic Trials in 2016...

Indeed. Record attendance at Drake for the DI championships and flooding kept attendance from what it could have been. I thought attendance was low, then saw the numbers from last year at Arkansas. There is a bit of a gap between 2012 and 2016. Could do the USAT&F nationals in 2015. That is also a Trials year, for the Worlds.

You're right DTDOG, the weather was fine. As a matter of fact, that sun was brutal. Boy, was it hot (and DUB was mowing his lawn!). I want to say one thing, though. The woman's 10,000 meter run on Thursday night was one of the most unbelievable athletic performances I have ever seen, anywhere. I have seen in my lifetime Mickey Mantle, Johnny Unitas, Gayle Sayers, MJ, Willie Mays, Wilt, Oscar, etc., etc., etc., but for pure awe inspiring amazment, this was second to none. Lisa Koll, of Iowa State, lapped practically everyone in the field. How she just expanded on her lead throughout the race was absolutely incredible!!!! I could not believe that most of the fans left before and during this amazing performance!!! Lisa, I'll always remember that run. You were amazing!!!! You didn't even look tired when you finished!!!
