I would guess Drake is playing at Missouri S&T next fall. Lehigh is supposed to visit in September.

And there has been discussion of a UNI game in 2011.

Can anyone fill in details on the Bulldogs' future schedules? Where will the 2011 UNI game be played?

With Northeastern and Hofstra dropping football, it looks like CAA teams suddenly have open dates.

Four that likely had 2010 games scheduled against either Northeastern or Hofstra:

Holy Cross
Albany
Bucknell
Youngstown State

Nice to see Butler play Youngstown on 9/11 the week after Youngstown faces Penn State. Hopefully Butler will represent PFL well and make an additional case for the auto-bid

Holy Cross: No

Albany: Yes, can't hiurt other than most Drake fans have no idea who Albany is.

Bucknell: Best match-up, definate YES!

Youngston: No, nothing good comes from play "other" rivals.

Yes it is stubby. This is the Drake/IlSU match-up of that area and should be a marginally good game.

Drake should be looking to lock down long term home and home series with USD and UND while they can.

Drake should also be looking to get on InSU's schedule for as long as they can since the Sycamore athletic department has decided to de-emphasize football.

I don't claim to know details of upcoming schedules. But it looks like 2010 will feature Lehigh (home), Missouri S&T (away), and a home game to be determined....could be an NAIA.

Drake will play UNI in 2011. That will likely be the only non-league I-AA on the schedule.

So if anyone is seriously thinking about North Dakota, South Dakota, or Indiana State, it won't be for games before 2012.

My opinion lock in long term series with UNI (I know this would be difficult - but they are in state) and Indiana State (they look like they will be bad for some time). This would give you one difficult and one easy MVC opponent each year.

Fill the third spot by rotating with one of the Dakota teams, a Patriot League team, Ivy League team, or Northeast Conference team, etc.

I read on message boards all the time where fans want the pioneer league to apply for a FCS automatic playoff spot. The only way it will happen is if the teams in the conference play credible schedules. Losing to three FCS scholarship teams is more credible than beating three non-DI opponents.

Not if you lose all three badly, and suffer several serious injuries.

Big picture does it really matter who is on the schedule? PLF teams will never get an auto bid or a play-off berth for that matter. Drake or any other PFL team could go 11-0, beat UNI in Cedar Falls or what ever top FCS program you want to slide in that "name" slot, but a bid is not going to come. Sadly enough.

If the PFL consistently did well against top quality FCS teams, I think they would get a bid. The league plays too many non-Division I teams right now, which I believe is the main reason for the non-auto bid. The Northeast Conference started to schedule D-I teams regularly in the non-conference which is why they will have an auto-bid. Their conference champion Central Connecticut State played Lehigh, Columbia, and William & Mary. They went 2-1, losing to William & Mary 33-14 who beat Virginia and went to the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs. You could make the argument Butler beat them in the Gridiron Classic, however, Butler just barely met the playoff requirement of seven wins vs. DI team as three of the ten wins were against non-DI teams.

Does anyone know why the PFL does not play a true round robin schedule like the PAC 10? If we played nine conference games, we would only need to schedule two to three (depending on the year) non-conference games which should make scheduling all D-I opponents easier. I still think having UNI on the schedule every year is beneficial both from and in-state rival and financial perspective. We would then only need to schedule 1 to 2 other games against D-I opponents (in most year one game).

Regardless, I hope the Gridiron Classic stays. I like the playoff idea, but I also am a bowl traditionalist so it would be nice to have a bowl game too.

In my humble opinion, I am afraid that this qualifies under the topic of ; BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR. Drake plays D1 FCS football. Our students have to excell in the classroom as well as on the field. Most in this class do not. We do well in PFL. We did not do well against University of South Dakota. We have not done well against UNI. Drake has always put education first, that should not change.

As soon as you hear a date for D-Jacksonville, let me know...I've made it a bi-annual "road trip" to River City to watch my beloved alma mater. It's been particularly pleasant the last couple of times since the match was in early November

I was looking around for schedule info on the PFL member football sites.
I saw that Jacksonville announced a schedule Drake at jacksonville Oct. 10th.
San Diego had a tentative schedule - at Drake on Oct. 30th.

Georgetown is looking for a game on Sept 11 or Oct 16. I still think they would be a good home and away series for us.

Also...I saw on the PFL site Marist is playing a 12 game schedule. Why are they allowed to play 12 when we can only play 11?

Georgetown is not a possibility for us this year. Drake's last open spots are (were) Sept 18th and Sept 25th (source: Footballscoop.com open date listings). It appears that one of those dates will be DU's 11th game and the other will remain open.

As for Marist, they're playing 11.

Penn has an opening on Sept 25. That would be a cool match-up.
