| | Wow, times sure have changed since I went to college. The university should prompt the students to put their books, computers, homework, TVs aside to party on a Saturday afternoon at a football game? That aside, The university could bring back the cannon!! The homeowners who bought homes close to the stadium should be told they assumed the risk when they bought their homes; i.e., if you buy a house close to a university stadium you can reasonably expect to hear LOUD noise during a football game. The university could have marketing students develop a program to better market the team in the neighborhood; i.e., bring in area youth football teams and let them march around the field at half time. That'll bring in kids, their friends, parents and grandparents. The university could have students in communications flood local newspapers with special interest stories about the team, players, cheerleaders, etc. Admittedly, stories will only run on slow news days--but it would help get news out and newspapers would not have to pay for stories. Obligate scholarship athletes in other sports to attend one game a year...other than those, I don't know...College kids that don't go to the games are virtually missing a once in a lifetime opportunity; i.e., I could and have gone back to my school for games but it is not the same... |
