Link that's still working

Grenfell is a 5-8 guard from York, Neb. She was honorable mention in Class B last year, and averaged 13.3 points. I think the link DU provided said she's 5-6, so she might be pretty small.

Thanks, Mecha....those links from the Omaha paper don't stay active very long....even a shorter time period than the links on the DM Register site.

Great job out of the Women's coaches.
I know they are excited about their class.

I think they have three commitments out of four already.

From Grenfell's hometown newspaper:

...it was great to hear that Carly Grenfell committed to Drake University basketball come fall of 2010. The Duke super shooter considered Bradley and Northern Colorado before selecting the Bulldogs. The Drake mascot certainly matches her determination and intensity on the court.

She's a super shooting bulldog. Sounds like a good one.

There's a local story on Grenfell signing her LOI.

“She’s the definiton of hard work,” [York assistant coach Ben] Meyer said. “I coached her from her freshman year and it’s great to see her work herself into this position. It’s nice working with kids like her.”

There's a good local story on Grenfell:

"Carly's a great weapon to have because she has the capability to break a press by herself, distribute the ball where it needs to go and also shoot down threes," York coach Matt Kern said.

She's also a 4.0 student, and apparently a standout in track and field: http://www.cornhuskershootingstars.com/css/team.aspx?team=1

York has had some great players over the years. Amy Dutmer, who graduated in 2000 and subsequently played at K-State, led York to the state tournament in 2000, where they lost to Alliance, which of course is where Coach Stephens played prep ball (though at an earlier time). Going back even further, Rita Makovica led York to the NB State High School Girls BBall Tournament three years in a row in the late 1970s. She went on to play at the University of Wyoming, and I remember watching her play there when I was an undergrad student at UW. She was a very talented player.

Back to Grenfell. I suspect a kid from York, NB, who is that academically talented is more interested in going to a school that is stronger academically, and the NB ties that a couple of our coaches have probably helped a lot. The recruiting classes since Allison Pohlman came on board have been very good, all in all.
