| Bump
With Milton Bradley gone, I predict the Cubs will be significantly better and the Mariners (who signed the cancer) will significantly under achieve.

| I'm sure Cub fans will find someone else to blame for another disappointing season.

| Cubs have now lost 7 of their last 8 and are 6 games under .500. Pretty pathetic results for a team with the 3rd or 4th highest payroll in baseball. At the end of the season, the new owners need to clean house. GM, minor league head, scouts; everybody must go. This organization cannot scout and develop talent, and they have made very poor free agent pickups for way too much $. Everything about the organization must change.

| Normally, I'd say they should clean house and trade some veterans to contenders for young talent, but they can't even do that, because none of their "big-name" players have any trade value due to ridiculous contracts.

| What about Silva? You can already see the cracks beginning to form, don't you have this feeling that if he remains a Cub the best time of his entire career will have been April/May 2010?

Silva has been good, but I'm not sure how much trade value he has.
Now, the big problem is what to do with Zambrano. Yesterday's blowup might have been the last straw. They don't want to keep him, but his $18-20 million a year contract and lack of production mean that nobody else will touch him. They're stuck with his ridiculous contract and Soriano's ridiculous contract for another 3-4 years. They've been trying to trade Fukudome, but even with the Cubs willing to pay for half his salary, can find no takers.
The Cubs of the last few years should be "Exhibit A" in showing that you can't buy championships. Until the Cubs' farm system starts producing major league talent on a consistent basis, they will continue to suck.

| I'm glad Z went nuts. That team needs a kick in the arsch. If you watched the tirade, you can tell everyone was big time uneasy in the dugout. Good for Carlos to try something ... anything, to get these overpaid pracks to wake the frick up. Lee has been suck'n something terrible and his nonchalant attitude drives me frigg'n crazy. A typical Cubs move would be to trade The Big Z and he'll end up in St Louis and pitch another 10 no hitters, a few perfect games, an additional 7 years of 20+ win seasons, a couple Cy Young awards, and a few World Series titles. Maybe the Cubs need to look at some new sports psychologists to join the family.

I agree that the team needs a kick in the arsch.....but I don't think that Z's tirade will be that kick. He had nobody but himself to blame for the 4 spot he gave up in the 1st. Going off on your teammates probably ain't going to fire them up in that situation.
I've always been a Zambrano fan....I was behind him 100% when he beat the snot out of Michael Barrett in the dugout a few years ago. He's being paid superstar dollars and he's pitching like a bad #5 starter. I think a change of scenery would be the best thing for him, but I can't see anybody wanting that contract.

| Just got back from StL this weekend. Being an Angels fan, I've never paid much attention to this whole Cubs/Cards thing, but I was amazed at how many anti-Cubs T-shirts, hats, etc. there were around town. Kind of funny that a team clearly on top has so much antipathy for a team posing no threat in the past or foreseeable future. It would be kind of like the Angels hating on the Mariners. DUB, where does this come from? What did the Cubs ever do to the Cards to deserve this?

It's a regional rivalry thing. For about 70 years, these two teams were the "western frontier" for baseball. I'm guessing that the St Louis fans are envious of everything Chicago, especially the tremendous basketball talent.

| After 70 years and 10 world series, I would think StL would move on to bigger and better.
As for the Chicago b-ball talent, Trey Rice is saying it has all moved to Springfield.

He's from Champaign. It's nowhere near Chicago. It's nowhere near Springfield. You'll figure out your geography eventually.

Out of those two, I think I'd prefer Girardi, only because he's managed at the major league level. I'd be ok with Bob Brenley, too. The Cubs will offer a nice salary, and there won't be a shortage of good candidates.
But.........if they don't make other changes within the organization, it's not going to matter who the manager is.

That would be stupid. He's had a tough situation in LA with the owners, he has said he is burned out and ready to get out of baseball. Sounds like a retread of Lou.
