| | I just heard from my nephew who is with an AAU team with some Waukee players at a tournament out in cleveland this week. My nephew will be a Senior for Waukee this year - Judd is with them. Sure will be fun to have Judd close by to see him play his Senior year in the DM area. |

Talk about it in Arizona Preps Boy's Basketball ForumBasha High School's star 6-foot-5, 195-pound senior guard Judd Welfringer (University of Drake commit) had a very strong junior season for Head Coach Brad Pinter this past season in leading the Bears to a 24-7 overall record.
Basha HS 6-foot-5 senior guard Judd Welfringer (Drake commit) has decided to move to the state of Iowa for his senior season. Welfringer had his best season of his high school career and one of the best seasons across the board, putting up very impressive numbers. The Drake commit averaged a team-leading 16.2 points, 7.6 assists and 10.6 rebounds per/game - almost a triple-double. Welfringer also shot an impressive 62% from the field and 85% from the free-throw line.
Welfringer's best season came after he made a very early verbal commitment to Drake University after the completion of his sophomore season - one of the earliest college commitments in Arizona's rich basketball history.
According to reports, Welfringer is now leaving the state of Arizona and moving closer to his college of choice. While he was not available for comment on this situation, Welfringer will be moving to the state of Iowa this year. The move comes after Welfringer's parents received a job opportunity in the state, also a chance to move closer to Drake University where Welfringer will play his college basketball.
This move is not uncommon for parents of high school athletes, as Sunnyslope HS graduate and Kansas signee Royce Woolridge moved on to Kansas this spring, only to have his mother, Victoria Salas, also pack her bags and move to the state of Kansas as well.
Former Gilbert-Highland HS star guard Matt Carlino gave an early verbal pledge to the University of Indiana after his sophomore season, and then saw himself and his father, Mark Carlino, a former Head Coach of Highland HS, both pack their bags and move to the state of Indiana for Matt's junior season. Unfortunately for Carlino, it did not work out, as the rising senior guard de-committed from Indiana and now has given a new verbal pledge to play for UCLA.
Hopefully, this move and Welfringer's future at Drake will work out for him, as he definitely is deserving of a great basketball future ahead of himself. Welfringer is an excellent young man with a great zest for life and excellent work ethic - on and off the floor.
Best wishes for the Welfringer family from our Arizona Preps' staff, as we all enjoyed watching him perform over the past several years at a high level. He truely helped to raise the level of basketball in this state.
Welfringer is also an excellent student, carrying a perfect 4.0 CUM GPA.
Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Standing 6-5 in heigth, Welfringer has very good size among the state's 2011 class of prospects. He is a solid perimeter player that does not turn the ball over and makes good decisions with the basketball in his hands. He is among the biggest point guard prospects in the country, and is also capable of playing both guard positions, as he is an excellent shooter of the basketball with nice range. He also possesses a high basketball IQ, and has excellent work ethic a a player. Also very tough physically, Welfringer is not afraid to mix it up inside against much bigger competition. Also a very good rebounder and finisher around the basket, Welfringer is an OK athlete but gets by with his understanding of the game. Defensively, he will need to continue to work on his lateral quickness to defend quicker guards at the next level, but he has a good understanding of angles on the floor and seems to get by. A team leader that is very vocal on the floor, this young man should be successful in life at whatever he chooses to pursue in his career.

| Gordon Gottschalk (7/22/2010) Thanks for the post BG. I can't wait to see him play.
So which area HS is going to win the Judd Welfringer lottery? I think it will be awsome to get a chance to see him against the in state players, any coach would be lucky to have this kid on his team.
A little disapointed that folks in Arizona don't know much about the University of Drake. Here's hoping Judd joins the High School of Roosevelt Theodore basketball team.

| I would love to see that, but if he's already out in Waukee I don't see it happening. Im surprised the papal envoy hasn't started recruiting him.

There's a short story about Welfringer playing for his club team in Arizona. It says he'll move to the Des Moines area in August.[/quote]
Students are registering today at Roosevelt, any Judd Sightings?

| Coaches Phelps and Gibson were seen going into the Waukee Gym Thursday evening.
Since Thursday was the first day Coaches could see players in person, I am only presuming that Judd was about to get his first "personal work-out". Welcome to the Big Leagues Judd! Having witnessed Personal Workouts by Phelps, et al in the past, I am sure he worked his tail off.
Nice for the staff to not have to buy plane tix to Phoenix to watch their 2011 recruit.
