| Dude, you are the smartest person on this board. Look at the fabulous set of teammates the staff has lined up for you to play with. Get your dancing shoes polished and ready to wear 'cause you're going to need them!

| Here's an article from late July.....Not sure if this is a premium article or not:

Here's what they say about Welfringer...
Judd Welfringer, 6-5 guard, 2010, Basha High, Mesa, Arizona - Welfringer is a skilled three point shooter who can knock down shots from deep and off the dribble. While he is a skilled shooter, he does have the ability to handle the ball and make plays, which will make his transition to Drake University next year very easy.
Apparently, they thought he was a rising senior, rather than a rising junior. He won't join Drake until the 2011-12 season.

| Welfringer is averaging 15 ppg, 7 rpg and 6 apg through 2 games. Shooting well from the FT line, not so well from 3-point range (0-7)

| "3. Chandler Basha High School (6-0)
Head Coach Brad Pinter loves this year's team and it has shown early as this young group has been very good ... they have handled their opponents by an average margin of almost 17 points per/game. The Bears have a combination of youth and experience and it has paid off this season, as 6-foot-5 junior guard Judd Welfringer (Drake commit) is having his best high school season, almost averaging a triple-double this season with 15.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 7 assists per/game. ..."

There's another mention of the same game:
Basha, without senior point guard Javon Taylor (in Michigan visiting family), beat Mesa Desert Ridge 60-39 Saturday night in the first-round at McClintock. Junior guard Judd Welfringer, a 6-foot-5 Drake commit who may wind up in law school some day, led the 10-1 Basha Bears with 21 points. Freshman forward Torren Jones had eight points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.

| | By examining Judd's stats, he looks like a complete player. Judd may only be putting up 13.1ppg, but he is also averaging 9.2rpg, 7.1apg, 2.9spg, and 2.9bpg as a Junior in high school. We have recruits that are scoring in bunches; Judd sounds like the type of glue guy that can help everyone mesh. As a guard he is proving that he does everything that his team needs him to do to win. (Basha is 10-1) I find rebounds and assists to be very impressive. Judd seems to have found his shooting touch as of late. He started the year 5 of 17 from three. Since then, he has shot 11 of 18 from three. |

| Judd is listed as the starting 2 but is the primary ball handler (especially when they are presesed) for Basha. He's also put on the the other teams top scorer every game with the direction of shutting that player down - which he usually does. He works hard at playing team ball and being a leader. He's definitely a "pass first" player. He's been a starting combo guard since his Freshman year and this is also his 3rd year as Captain of his team. He's on track to break the states assist record, which he'd like to do as long as it doesn't interfere with his team winning.
Although he's capable of scoring, almost at will, Basha has three players, 6'9", 6'8" and 6'7", and a POST offense and the first and second options are to jam the ball inside, which Basha does very well. It's hard to stop a 6'5" guard from "posting" a 6"9" block player. The other guard on the team is a 5'10", quick as snot, guard who is an excellent passer and ball handler.
I think he is also averaging 1 charge-taken per game. Not too noteworthy a stat except it shows his willingness to do "whatever" it takes to help his team. Most of his turnovers (which are too high) are from trying to "make" plays...
Also, AZ has 7 basketball conferences and Basha is in the top conference, I think as defined by more than 3000 students enrolled.
After last nights win, Basha is 11-1 and play in the semi-final game of a tournament held locally. Win tonight and they are in the championship game tomorrow night.
Also, Judd is VERY excited to attend and play for Drake!!! |

| | The stat line is great, but what surprises me most is that he gets 9.2 boards a game with that huge front line. He must want those boards! |

| Thank you Drake Fan! I love to hear first-hand accounts of how our future Bulldogs are doing. It is great to hear Judd is excited about coming to Drake because we are also very excited about seeing Judd and the other great young men who will be playing over the next few years. Please keep us informed as to how his season is going.

| Basha won in the Semi Finals on Tuesday night. Judd had 8 pts, 15 reb, 10 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocks and 3 t/o.
Basha won, in OT, in the finals, last night. Judd had 5 pts, 9 reb, 8 ***, 2 steals, 2 blocks and 2 t/o. He fouled out with 2 minutes in regulation. He also took the other teams 30 point a night scorer and held him to 5 (until Judd fouled out). It was a good matchup for Basha because the team they played had two 6'10" bigs and a 6'7" wing with their shooting guard being 6'4".
Conference play resumes on Tuesday and games will be every Tuesday and Friday through Feb 12.
Go DRAKE!!! |
