Rematch vs. Central tomorrow, this year Centennial is 2-0. If you remember, he scored 45 vs. them earlier in the season. According to his facebook, he expects them to run box and 1 and double him every time he touches the ball again. Should be a W either way.

Rice had 16 in a 47-36 victory.....He was 4-18 from the field in the first 3 quarters, but then 4-4 in the 4th. He was the focus of a box and one defense the entire game.

In year's past, the Illinois State Toynament has been streamed online. If DUBulldog really cared about Drake basketball, he would provide us with the dates of the toynament and a link to the video stream.

Nice. He outscored the other team. Of course the other team shot about as bad as a team could.

DU would only provide that info if the tourney was in Chicago. Downstate, nah.

I miss the days when the tourney was carried by WGN, so we could still watch it in Des Moines. Who carries it now?

P.S. I hope they never move the tourney to Chicago. It definitely belongs somewhere in the Champaign, Peoria, Bloomington, Springfield area.

P.S. The semi-finals are March 19th, championship game is March 20th.

Centennial beat Springfield Southeast tonight, and will play in the quarterfinals of the state tournament on Tuesday.

No stats on-line yet.

Rice had 22 points. Hopefully his offensive flow and rhythm will be maintained upon transition after high school...he clearly has the talent.

http://blogs.sj-r.com/otbs/index.php/2010/03/13/thoughts-from-champaign/

This is a blog from a Springfield newspaper writer after Rice's team beat Springfield Southeast:

Rayvonte Rice gets my vote for Mr. Basketball. No, he’s not named Jereme Richmond. Yes, he’s going to Drake, not Illinois. But whatever ‘it’ is, Rice has it by the truckload. As soon as he fired up that 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, the one that ended Southeast’s run, I knew it was going in. I KNEW it. ... Rice’s physical skills are obvious. But what impresses me more is that every time I see him, he has never failed — not once — to come through in the clutch. It’s a special trait.

Went to the Stevenson-Waukegan sectional game on Tuesday. Stevenson draped Richmond like a blanket. Held him to 2 points in the first half and 12 for the game, although his teammates pulled it out for Waukegan. Richmond could barely hold onto the ball. The write ups in the papers keep playing him up, though. The Sun-Times said it was a "quiet" 12 points. Yeah, 4 of which were free throws and one was a dunk with no one within 10 feet of him. He showed only one nice touch on a ten footer. In the sectional championship against Schaumburg, he scored 15 (maybe it was 16), but they played up his assists and rebounds. Oh, yeah, for most of the Stevenson game, their (Stevenson's) tallest player was 6'3"!!! Their (Stevenson's) starting center is 6"5", but he played only half the game. My son-in-law went to the game with me. He is an Illini grad and big fan. He left the game feeling depressed, thinking the Illini have recruited another bust. GO RAYVONTE!!! ILLINOIS "MR. BASKETBALL!!"

I think it's carried by Comcast.

Rayvonte is in a real battle. They lead by only 5, 52-47.

Richwoods is running away with their game.

In 4A, #1 Waukegan (Jereme Richmond) is only up by 1, 25-24, at half.

The games are telecast by the IHSA Network, with affiliates all over the state. In Chicago, it is Channel 50 (an old UHF station). It is not a cable station, but regular TV. I do not know if any of the affiliates are cable. I would imagine that folks in eastern Iowa could catch a station to watch the game. Right now it's tight. If things work out , the semi-finals are Fri. afternoon and the first and third place games are Sat. afternoon. (The 4A games are Fri. and Sat. night).

Hold your breath!

Centennial wins!!!! 80-74.

Richwoods wins...... 61-44

Waukegan wins...... 75-61

With Centennial and Waukegan with big numbers, it may mean that Rayvonte and Richmond could have had big nights.

Rayvonte finished with 34 points tonight

" SPRINGFIELD — Centennial is headed back to Peoria to defend its Class 3A state title.

The Chargers beat Cahokia 80-74 in a super-sectional thriller Tuesday night. They will play Hillcrest in a Class 3A semifinal at 2 p.m. Friday.

Rayvonte Rice, who earlier in the day was named a Class 3A all-stater by The Associated Press, had 34 points.

More coming tonight from the N-G's Jeff Huth, Marcus Jackson and Heather Coit."
