| According to chicagohoops.com, Drake has offered Rayvonte Rice, a 6-3 player from Champagne, Illinois. His team recently won the state 3-A championship (4-A is the largest schools).

I did not realize you were this territorial about it. So is Shaumberg "Chicago"? I think I can probably find a suburb of Chicago that is pretty close to this kid. Hinrich was practically from South Dakota. It's not like this kid is from Carbondale.

I didn't realize that you didn't know that all of Illinois is not a Chicago suburb. Yes, Schaumburg is definitely Chicago area......but, this kid lives about 140 miles from Chicago....not 25-30 miles like Schaumburg. No connection to Chicago other than same state. That's why I made the Hinrich comparison. Same state, but not close to the city being mentioned.
Champaign is closer to Indianapolis than it is to Chicago....and I don't think I'd be right if I said he's from the Indianapolis area.

| According to Chicagohoops.com
Class of 2010 Champaign Centennial star Rayvonte Rice is expected on campus this week for an unofficial visit to Drake University.
linkage
Rice's AAU teammate, Jordan Threloff has already visited the Drake campus. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing them both ending up at DU.

It would be nice to get a couple of players from Illinois. It seems like the most logical place for Drake to recruit.

| According to this link, Rice is visiting Drake today. Sounds like the competition for him is going to be very tough. But, it is nice to see him mention Drake as one of the schools he was going to visit.
I hope the family atmosphere at Drake and the academic opportunities are enough to sway him.

| Sounds like he wants to play in a big conference....but is also interested in being able to play right away. The MVC is very close to being a "big" conference, and I think the opportunity would be there to play right away at Drake.

| According to the link, these are the "big" conference schools: Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Boston College, Missouri, Northwestern and Stanford.
Looks like a lot of middle of the road BCS types. Year after year, the best in the Valley stacks up very well against this kind of school. So why sit on Tubby's bench for 3 years when you can be playing at Drake?

| Sounds like a pefect fit for Phelps. With his strength he could be a 4 year starter. hopefully he'll give Drake some serious consideration.
Don't pass up the shot. |
