| Several of us were talking about this Des Moines 8th grader in the Bohannon thread. DUBulldog or someone alerted to me to this thread on the Cyclone board. The kid is not a hidden gem by any stretch. -

| Getreal, what is this about?
Thank you Dr Tom & Keno! We appreciate the NCAA at large bid!
It was an automatic bid earned by the players. And you were one of the guys questioning whether the game had passed Dr. T by.
And you need to lose that stupid avatar.

| Here's a link to a website that says Jok is far more advanced at the same age than Harrison Barnes.
link
We might as well get the discussion going with the introduction of 6-5 Iowa phenom Peter Jok. The 2009 NY2LASports.com Swish & Dish M.V.P. turned in a breakout performance that included a number 30+ point efforts and followed that up with monster showings time and time again this past spring. Remember we were the first to label the current Iowa big story Harrison Barnes as the real deal almost 3 years ago and without question Jok is significantly more advanced that Barnes was as the rising 9th grade age and should Jok fulfill his potential he will be the best player to ever come out of the state of Iowa, without question. Skill, range, instincts, athleticism, length, etc. are all present inside a big time frame and expect college coaches across the country to stand around the block before its all said and done because this young man is the truth! The only question with Jok is position as he could player either the 2 or the 3 at the next level but he promises to do it in major impact fashion regardless of where he lines up on the court.

| | Wow, lots of good words about Jok. He will be a premier player, but I'm not going to rule out the possibility of him landing at Drake. With Peter, there are a lot of intangibles. It helps that Drake is the most accessible school right now. Proximity to home may be a factor. The caliber of people (players, coaches, and administration) at Drake is great in not only talent but character and optimism. Jok would be the ultimate Phelps player with the length that he is currently targeting. True, this is a long ways out, and will take a perfect fit, but it will be fun to see Peter develop over the next 4 years. |

| LOTTERY PICK !!!!!!! He has a lot of work ahead of him. The people around him have driven him to stay away from all the hype. He is a tremendous 14 year old player but the learning and improvement curve have to stay the course. He is a gym rat and loves the game.

| Has anyone watched Big Pete's brother play in the Capital City League yet? I hear his game has improved a ton over the last 6 - 12 months. I think his name is Dau Jok. Might be a good idea for a program to sign them both up.

Dau Jok isn't playing in the Cap City League. I like your idea of signing him....I don't care if he's a legit D-1 player or not. If it gives Drake a chance at his younger bro, it's worth it.

| Dau Link
Peter's older brother Dau committed to Penn. Dau is a guard from class of 2010, and the article says Drake was recruiting him.

Here is an interesting article, I did not know that Manute Bol was Dau and Big Pete's Uncle, and Chicago Bull's star Luol Deng is their first cousin. linkage

| Hoopscooponline has Peter Jok ranked as the #10 freshman in the country. Definitely the most highly regarded player out of the Des Moines public schools since I've been around here (1976).

| Met with a couple Dads (AAU junkies) this morning who saw Big Pete play recently and they claim his game has reached another level. He had several dunks and some other stuff that is way above anyone his age. They claim that he is the only player, they've ever seen, who at the age of 14 can play as fast as he can and still be under control. He will start varsity for Roosevelt this season. Let's make sure there are always Drake fans at his games. Say a prayer and keep fingers crossed!!! I know for a fact that he really likes Drake!

| speaking of high school kids- i was reading college basketball preview magazine (by the way they dont give Drake or the MVC much love) and i noticed Harriosn Barnes of Ames is first team all america I am assuming drake has no shot since i have never seen his name mentioned on the board here- but it looks like he is still not commited anywhere. just wondering if you know where he is going? am in chicago so i never hear anything about iowa preps.
and for sure- keep Drake in the mind of Peter all the time- maybe he can find some season tickets right behind the bench or something
thnaks for response |
