Drake looks to begin the dawn of a new era under the helm of first-year head coach Phil McDaniel. Leading the charge for the Bulldogs will be a quartet of returning starters, including sophomore outside hitter Angela Bys, who averaged team highs in kills, total attacks and service aces en route to her selection on the all-MVC Freshman squad in 2007.

DUBulldog: If Drake makes the MVC VB tourney and you come to Wichita to watch, I'll treat you to lunch (or dinner) at Barn'rds each day.

WSU Knocks Off No. 10 Cal Poly
http://www.goshockers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=61208&SPID=2838&DB_OEM_ID=7500&ATCLID=1571545

NORMAN, Okla. – The Shockers opened the 2008 season with a thrilling come from behind win over No. 10 Cal Poly in the Sooner Legends Nike Invitational. WSU won by scores of 16-25, 12-25, 25-19, 25-21 and 15-8.

After falling behind two sets to none, the Shockers responded by scoring five-straight to end the third set including three kills by Emily Stockman and a kill and ace by Lindsey Eckenrode.

In the fourth set, the Shockers jumped out to a 7-1 lead, but Cal Poly stormed back to take a 14-13 lead. The teams went back and forth until WSU ended the set on a 6-2 run to win 25-21.

The fifth set was tied at five before the Shockers pulled away to take a 15-8 win behind the serving of Mary Elizabeth Hooper.

Stockman and Eckenrode led the Shockers with 15 kills each, while Stockman added 12 digs and Eckenrode added seven digs and three aces. Sarah McGee chipped in with five kills, two aces and six blocks, while Kelly Broussard had a match-high 24 digs and Mary Elizabeth Hooper had a team-high 39 assists.

The Mustangs out hit the Shockers .199 to .182 and also tallied higher numbers in every major statistical category including kills, digs, aces and blocks, but the Shockers prevailed for the victory. It was the highest-ranked opponent the Shockers have beaten in school history.

The description of this board is "discuss all other Drake Sports Topics here".

Not sure how the last post relates to Drake. You certainly don't see any Drake posters going over to Shockernet and posting that Drake beat Centenary today, 3-0.

I know I don't speak for everybody, but I'm guessing there aren't many on this board who care about WSU's volleyball results.....ya prack.

Fans everywhere care about Drake volleyball. Not just on ShockerNet but even on VolleyTalk.

http://volleytalk.proboards88.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=22331&page=3
vb55: "ok. Lamb. I think we need to remember this is the Valley week 1 thread. Not the WSU thread or the Lamb thread. So we should probably get back to talking about the Valley. We can move this talk to the Shocker thread. Thanks for sharing. How about those Dawgs going 4 - 0?"

wsufan: "Go Drake!! 4-0 !!!
8/29 vs. Centenary 28-26, 25-17, 25-14 Pablo: 301
8/29 vs. Ball State 22-25, 17-25, 25-14, 25-20, 15-8 Pablo: 249
8/30 at Sam Houston State 25-23, 25-16, 25-17 Pablo: 241
8/30 vs. Wisconsin-Green Bay 25-15, 26-28, 25-21, 25-13 Pablo: 218"

When a MVC team is in the Top 25 and this is listed on the MVC website http://www.mvc-sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=7600&ATCLID=1573305 I would assume Drake fans care. With Drake being undefeated in volleyball, the Dawgs have a chance to beat a Top 25 team during MVC play and go on to the NCAA tourney. This could be bigger than ... the Drake Relays!! Drake beats Nebraska for WVB national title

Drake volleyball is now 5-0. Not bad considering they went 7-23 last year.

Drake has some nice players. I wish DU fans would support Drake VB like WSU fans support Shocker VB.

BTW: What do you think of your new VB coach?

I don't know anything about him.....but, I do know that the team has already equaled last season's win total.

For the Drake match on Saturday, WSU is starting early (match at 6pm rather than 7pm) and giving the tickets away (i.e. tickets are free). After the volleyball match, the Shocker basketball teams will put on a show at “Shocker Madness” http://www.goshockers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=61179&SPID=2851&DB_OEM_ID=7500&ATCLID=1595880.

I hope some Drake fans come watch on Saturday. You'll get to see some great volleyball (for free) and then get a look at the Shocker MBB team including Ramon Clemente who fought Bucky Cox for the rebounding title last year. I hope for 10,000+ fans; you might want to arrive early.

I should have posted previously. Drake took WSU to five sets. The Shocks had trouble with Drake's outside hitters. I think Drake volleyball will show improvement over the next few years.
