| The ISU board is in full meltdown mode.
I feel bad for them. I imagine that is how I'd feel if Josh Young were leaving Drake. Or Bucky Cox. Or Keno. Wait, that last one happened.

| Just heard, that's bad news for Iowa basketball. As much as I will enjoy Drake beating ISU next year, it looks bad for Iowa in general. That's too bad. ISU is toast unless a miracle year happens. But that never happens, right? |

| I agree DT, this will be tough for McD to survive. Their guard court is awful, now they're losing their stud. BTW, where are all those "transfer to Drake" people now? They get hopped up about Johnson and Henderson, but when a real player comes out they are sure quiet.

| I'd take WJ on our team. Doubt we have a chance...but he'd be good. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't show up in Memphis...taggert connection.

| Could you imagine if Wesley Johnson came to Drake? That would give the DA on afternoon radio enough material to work with for a 2-3 years.

| I'd love to see Johnson on my team. The problem for Drake is just about every D1 coach would love to see Johnson on his team too. Mark Phelps will be a god if he can convince Johnson to come to Drake, but I have a feeling he'll wind up at a bigger name school.
The fallout from this will be interesting. ISU will be okay next year if Craig Brackins doesn't hit a wall again, Lucca Staiger is the player ISU fans think he is, and a couple of their recruits pan out to be major contributors. Otherwise, McDermott could be done after year three. I want to see Johnson's reasons for leaving.

| I'm sure Johnson wants to transfer to a BCS school....if I had to guess right now I'd guess somewhere in Texas or LSU.
I don't think Drake has a chance, but I'm sure Phelps would find a scholarship for him.
WJ played the '4' his freshman season, played the '2' this year, and I think McD had planned on moving him back to a forward spot next season. Maybe Johnson pictures himself as an NBA 2-guard and wants to go somewhere that he can play that position. Or, maybe he wants to play in an offense that isn't quite as structured as McDermott's.

DUB I think you're right across the board. WJ was not highly recruited out of high school and I think he has people talking to him that are saying he could be a high NBA pick at the "right school" in the "right system." I'm pretty sure this would mean a 2 at a place that runs the floor.
The ISU fans are melting down big time and are in a panic that Staiger won't come back from Germany and Brackins will now ask out. McD is Pollard's guy so it will take a lot to get fired (Bowlesby stuck with Alford), but this really puts the program back.

I don't think it makes sense for him to transfer to a Texas school. All of the BCS-conference schools in Texas are in the Big 12, and there's usually a major penalty for transferring within the conference. The ISU board says the penalty is sitting out two years.

HEY MARK ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION? ADD ANOTHER GUARD TO GO WITH WEDELL AND YOU LOOK GREAT THROUGH 2010-2011.
WESLEY WOULD COMPLEMENT JP AND RW AND GIVE US THREE SENIOR GUARDS IN 2010.
I DON'T HEAR HIM WHINING ABOUT NOT BEING CAPTAIN.

The ISU message boards seem pretty certain he's headed to Kentucky. I couldn't see him dropping down to a lower level of competition (TCU).

| According to the Register, Wesley hasn't made a decision of where to go. I think Phelps should talk to him quick.

| What was the problem between Wesley and McD? Where's Wesley at academically?
If these first moves are any indication, Phelps has pretty high marching orders as far as academics go. It's a good thing.

| Now that I've heard what both WJ and McD had to say about this, I take back everything I said bad about McD. This situation is not reflective of the ISU program. I think it's just about a star player getting oversensitive to a coach's criticism. I also think WJ is listening to people who are telling him he should be treated like a star, he can do better, he's going to make millions in the NBA, etc. It's a reflection on the state of college ball in general, not ISU or McD.
