I've been thinking the last few days that this change in coaching might be one of the best things that ever happened to Drake Basketball. Think of it this way.

We had a great season with two unrecruited walk ons. Keno and Chris Davis can't take credit for that. Only Bucky and Adam deserve that credit. keno and Chris weren't good enough prognositcators to see the talent in high school and give them a scholly. However, they have handed out schollies to players who turned out to be huge busts. I won't name them but we know who they are. So in my view, Keno got lucky. Perfect storm lucky.

Enter Mark Phelps. Proven recruiter. Assistant from successful BCS programs. Comes into a higher profile Drake job. He recruits, talent improves, Drake continues to go dancing.

Meanwhile, Providence lurks at the bottom of the Big East with two star recruits, losing records, luck runs out.

I have thought of it that way. If last season had never happened, who had a better resume? Clearly Phelps. The only advantage Beno would have would be ties to Iowa, but that was before we knew he considers himself a New Englander.

DT, you've seen the light! It is absolutely the perfect time to bring in a new coach. I don't agree with you about the recruiting points you make, but think about the strength of what we have coming back, fan interest, recognition for the school, etc. Let's say Kano stayed a couple more years and had some nice 20-win seasons with an NCAA and an NIT. People would say it was good, but not like 2007-08. JY would be gone, Bucky gone, Urban Legend gone. It would loook like a rebuilding situation and the fan base would be hungry for a return to 07-08. For the sake of the program and the ability to hire the best replacement, this was the perfect time for Kano to jump ship.

Let Josh Parker play!

When you're dealt lemons.....make lemonade. I understand the spin you are putting on the situation, and I like the spin....BUT...if Keno had not up and jumped ship, I don't think anyone would be saying.....'I hope Keno leaves so we can bring in an assistant from ASU to be the head coach'.......

Maximus, I agree 100% w/you. I am also trying to make lemonade from the current situation. Now be prepared to be ripped into by everyone on the board.

I agree but Beno did and I'm saying it now, "I hope Keno leaves so we can bring in an assistant from ASU to be the head coach."

Call it lemonade, Orange Julius, squid piss, or nectar, it will all come out in the wash.

Hijacking the thread here, but given the title... it's the "right time for Drake" right now, Mediacom is replaying the Drake vs. Creighton white-out home game--Leonard dunking, KK hitting the trey from the "D", JY nailing 3s... This *team* was one for the ages and it's still a good time watching games again and again!
