Does anyone know the current status of Wendell Faines? Is Drake still recruiting him? How is he doing this year? It seems to me that the last remaining scholarship for next year would be much better filled by a big man than another guard or swing man. Cox, Heemskerk and White will all use up their remaining eligibility next season, leaving Sean Jones as the only returning inside player for '09-'10.

I think not locking down Faines is a huge mistake, we need big men and he gives us much more size. Hopefully he walks on or something because we need him.

With or without Faines, next season's team will be bigger than this year's squad. I don't think Drake has been hurt this season by being too small.

I don't think it is accurate to say the coaching staff has not "locked him down." They are not going to bring a kid in unless they think he can be successful as a student as well as an athlete.

From what I have heard Wendell went to Prep School because there wasnt going to be a whole lot of minutes for him. I felt like he could have play this year, but I am not Coach Davis either. Obviously, Heemskerk and Cox will be back next year, but Klayton Korver will not. I know it is funny, because he is 6-5 but Klayton started at the 4 spot pretty much all season. (And most of his career). Clearly he is not as explosive defensively as he was as a Freshman or Sophomore, but still is a good smart player who does the little things well even if his shot is slumping. Next season there will be a lot more there for Wendell. I am not saying he wont win the starting job right away. But, say just for example Bucky starts at the 5 like he has this year (and he will) and Brent Heemskerk starts at the 4.

Every coach that has 1 or 2 solid big guys on the bench will use them (If they are softies or cant shoot FTs that doesnt help). But, we will have to use them. Sean Jones is just not built like Wendell Faines, so if he is here he will surely get to mix it up plenty. I kinda have a feeling Alex White will continue to be a liability when we play upper level competition and when we get into Conference play next year. He makes a lot of bad decisions and is well, a terrible Free Throw shooter. Sorry, Alex, if you read this I just think you might need about 200 FT's a day this summer. I do feel that if we get Wendell to Drake with Sean Jones, that will be a nice nucleus for the big men of the future for us.

In case anyone cares, Rivals.com updated Drake's 2008 recruiting class on there a couple weeks ago.

Several of the recruiting sites list Faines as still being verballed to DU.....but, right now, there is no scholarship available for him.

I haven't been able to find anything on how his season has gone.

All incoming athletes in all sports have to be cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse to be eligible to play.

Here's another link that explains it.

Registration with the Clearinghouse is required for those wishing to play at the Division I and II level.

Ex-Drake recruit Wendell Faines from Lincoln, NE, is playing for the University of Idaho, and is listed as a junior. That's amazing since he was recruited by Dr. Tom. I know he went to prep school and must have bounced around until landing at Saddleback (CA) JC and wound up starring there.

Last night was a great win for the 'Dogs over Iowa State. It would be nice to nail a couple of wins at the Paradise Jam. Hopefully there will be some TV coverage of the Jam.

I think all the Jam games will be on one of the FOX sports stations through DIRECTV. Not sure where else.
