How would this be for (as Loney says) a preseason schedule?

1. A midwestern I-AA, as part of a home-home. See how many takers there are. If Drake made its terms clear, I think we'd have more in the queue than just Northern Iowa.

2. An NAIA from outside of Iowa. St. Xavier (Chicago) and Lindenwood (suburban St. Louis) are selective private schools with top-ten NAIA programs.

3. An Ivy League school. If they won't schedule us, then schedule (Wm) Penn or Cornell (College) and tell everyone we're scheduling an Ivy. I dare the Ivy Leaguers to complain about it. As an alternative, schedule a beatable, high profile I-AA, even if means long distance travel.

4. Missouri-Rolla (soon to become Missouri S&T...MST for short). They are a top-100 national university, and they've scheduled PFL schools the last few years. 'One of the few D-II schools with an academic reputation (Truman State is another).

If Drake absolutely has to take a paycheck, make it a payday.

Somehow, Central Connecticut of the NEC got a game against Western Michigan.

They probably got at least $100,000--better than Drake's standard $50K. Can we get a piece of that?

Better yet, how about North Texas or Rice?

We should be playing FCS teams only. No NAIA, D-II or D-III Teams.

What's the word on Drake scheduling Grand View when they start play in '08?

What have you heard about playing Lewis University (Romeoville, IL - a Southside Chicago suburb)? There is word they will have a full 36 scholarship D2 program set by '09.

What about St. Joseph's in Renselear(sp), IN down on the far southside of Chicago?

Schedule only FCS teams? 4X a year? And get beat up? You need to get to Drake Stadium more often.

And folks, don't think you're going to get too many schools not named UNI to make a return trip to Drake. In fact, with Drake's win over Illinois State, the FCS teams willing to play non-scholarship teams will dwindle even more. I know previously Drake tried to get Indiana State on the schedule. No soap. Indiana State isn't stupid.

I have been to every Drake game home and away for the past four years. You don't get better by playing cupcakes.
