Gone is Joey Carroll, probably the most heralded player in the recruiting class.

BTW, his former teammate, Drake Dunsmore (Pat's son), is out for at least the season with a knee injury. His Northwestern Wildcats are 4-0 for the first time since '62, as they head to Iowa City this weekend.

New player listed on roster, Ben Sabal.....no position or ht/wt listed.

Googled him, and he's a QB from Rolling Meadows, IL (suburban Chicago).....that makes 4 freshman QBs from the Chicago area.....all look like pretty good prospects (Badovinac, Piatkowski, Zurkowski and Sabal).

Including Leon Drake, I count 75 players with four years' eligibility remaining. That number is a little high, but not much higher than usual.

There's always a lot of attrition between years 2-3. If guys aren't moving up, they're getting out. It won't affect their financial aid, and the coaches don't mind getting 35-40 new players every year.

Recent player turnover may have been enhanced by the coaching changes and off field incidents.

2007 Media Guide shows 70+/- also. How does 60-70% Freshman compare to the Coach Ash years?

I think they're done adding freshmen to the roster on Drake's website....I think there are 41 freshmen listed now....and another 30 or so redshirt freshmen, so there's about 70 of the 100-110 players who are classified as freshmen.

In a March podcast interview with Creighton you'll find in the cfb archives of the site linked below, the coach talks about finishing out the recruiting class Jeter had started.

But it seems he's gone beyond that. Good job.

The competition between Badovinac and Piatkowski is shaping up like Ingle/Retherford four years ago. Hopefully, playing time won't be decided by broken bones and torn ligaments.

Whoopsie. Cat might be out of the bag on young Mr. Cogan. I haven't read anything on this in the Register--so naturally, I'm skeptical of rumors...ho ho.

But if he was transferring, I'm sure his father wouldn't want it discussed until Joliet JC's graduation on the 18th.

Can Detroit Flyer be blocked from accessing this board...you know, until we can get him some grief counseling?

Nick Chenier from Hinsdale Central (as mentioned in the link above from DUB) will be attending D. Likely a DB of some sort is my guess.

In addition, another Hinsdale grad, Eamonn Cogan, will be joining the squad. He began at Dayton and now will be at D.

Both are solid community members.

Add Joey Carroll, 5-10, 195 LB from Aquinas H.S. in the Kansas City area. He was selected first team All-Metro by a coaches' poll, but he's a tweener at the college level...maybe a safety...maybe a rover in Drake's new defense.

Joey played at Aquinas with fellow '08 recruit E.J. Walter--and the coolest name in football, Drake Dunsmore (Pat's son).

There will probably be more recruiting news at the end of next week, which will produce some lively discussion on the PFL board.

Homewood-Flossmoor has a very good program. Tremendous amount of speed. These two young men will bring speed and good fundamentals with them to our program.

FYI, for those of you not from Illinois; Lockport and Homewood-Flossmore are both very good football programs state wide. Both are in the largest school classification. I would assume if they are starters for their teams, they should be pretty good players.

This story says Chris Wilson (listed above) and Nolan Scott will play at Drake. They're teammates at Lockport High School in the Chicago area. A couple of their teammates will also play at Valpo.
