Coach Creighton's former AD at Wabash College resigned. He says he wants to move on to other challenges. I wonder if this move and Creighton's move are connected.

Academic Progress Rate (APR) Scores

The NCAA released these scores Tuesday. They cover the academic years 2003-04 through 2006-07. The APR measures retention, eligibility and graduation of athletes at Division I schools. It is designed to be a more current assessment of academic performance than graduation rates.

How would this be for (as Loney says) a preseason schedule?

1. A midwestern I-AA, as part of a home-home. See how many takers there are. If Drake made its terms clear, I think we'd have more in the queue than just Northern Iowa.

2. An NAIA from outside of Iowa. St. Xavier (Chicago) and Lindenwood (suburban St. Louis) are selective private schools with top-ten NAIA programs.

3. An Ivy League school. If they won't schedule us, then schedule (Wm) Penn or Cornell (College) and tell everyone we're scheduling an Ivy. I dare the Ivy Leaguers to complain about it. As an alternative, schedule a beatable, high profile I-AA, even if means long distance travel.

4. Missouri-Rolla (soon to become Missouri S&T...MST for short). They are a top-100 national university, and they've scheduled PFL schools the last few years. 'One of the few D-II schools with an academic reputation (Truman State is another).

Jared Vinoverski, a role player for the Lawrence H.S. basketball team, was on hand as his Lions upset top-ranked Manhattan at the state 6A tournament. Now it's on to the semis, where they'll probably get chewed up by one of the Wichita teams (I haven't looked at the bracket).

Edit: win over Wichita Heights puts them in state championship game v. Wichita SE. Record is something like 13-11. Ah, the district system in the state playoffs...

Edit #2: Southeast wins the title easily with 21 points from Utah signee Jordan Cyphers.

I think there will be at least one additional new member within the next five years. Iona is a nonscholarship independent; Detroit Mercy just built a football field; High Point is acquiring land for a new facility.

New Drake Bulldogs Theme Song?!

Hey guys, about a month ago I heard Fox use this song, "We the Dogz" by Toyboxheroes before the Cleveland Browns game. (referring to the dog pound - their loyal fans) I know that ESPN uses the song as well for some of their highlights. I think it is a great song for our school to use for our sports highlights or even our theme song!

Ash made it clear the day he was hired last June that the Bobcats will recruit Montana high schools hard, and he says the emphasis will not change. But MSU coaches must look elsewhere to fill out the roster. Ash has divided talent-rich California horizontally into five tiers: This recruiting season, Dale Ploessl is focusing on junior colleges; while Jim Swoboda, Jamie Marshall, Kane Ione, Jonathan Beasley and Noah Joseph are hitting the high schools. E.J. Arnold's focus is Oregon and Washington, Jason McEndoo's is Idaho and Montana, and Bo Beck's is Colorado. McEndoo and Beck will split Wyoming. Secondary assistant Justin Gaines will recruiting Texas, where he began his coaching career as an assistant at Texas Lutheran.

Drake would have some scholarship issues in that league. As it is, that's a good list of teams for Drake to look at for non-conference games.

If this happens, it will be because the others in the PFL (anticipating Detroit Mercy joining their division in a couple years) pulled a power play.

On the bright side, this alignment might allow the Bulldogs to be in the championship game a lot.
