Iowa State lost 2 more players today....Laron Dendy and Antwon Oliver. I think next season's team will have 2-3 returning players from last season.

Marty just hates Drake because of the affiliation with Cotlar. Had Drake offered HIM the radio gig, he'd be every bit the sickening puke FOR Drake that Perrault is for Creighton.

I think Miller is a little more even handed but Perrault and Terrel clearly don't like Drake. I can't figure out why Terrell hates Drake and Perrault is just a Blue Jay wannabe.

A back-handed compliment as well -- as in how could a school as bad as Drake get that quality of player. If you want Budget Cut's real opinion of Drake, just dig through some old threads where he came on hear to trash talk before the Creighton game at the Knapp.

Did anyone catch Matt and Miller on 1460 KXNO last night? They were talking about the job Hoiberg has in front of him and the challenge he will face from regional schools. Matt pointed out that Creighton has an experienced coach and an established program, Iowa has Fran who is experienced and has built NCAA teams, UNI is coming off the most successful season in program history, then, both Perrault and Miller mentioned Drake and both, BOTH, were praising Phelps and giving props in regards to what he is doing on the recruiting front. Both mentioned that they are in awe of the type of players Phelps is bringing to Drake. Praise for Drake on local sports radio? Almost unheard of.

Did I read that C had to pay Iow for McD? Not a good use of the buy out money, but better than actually buying McD out.

- Thursday, left the Energy to become an ISU asst
- Monday, McD accepts C job...Nurse could have gone to C but declined
- Tuesday, Hoiberg hired and Nurse not offered a position
- Wednesday, back to coaching the Energy

"Nurse said Iowa State “will honor the terms of the contract” with him, without specifying what those are."

In addition, I think the IS hire is great for a terrible reason or terrible for a great reason, however that works. This could be a great hire for Drake. Next season for IS(kinda weird without the U, but Darth says---) is a loser and could be similar the next year unless the Mayor pulls a Floyd and invites 22 guys to campus and then runs some off. Having Mac as a lame duck for a year would have helped delay any possible recovery, but this isn't bad.

Everybody's message board is always full of people who think their program is "coveted." Iowa fans thought they had a shot with Bruce Pearle, CU had people throwing out names that seemed very pie in the sky. The only board I have found that does not seem to think their own coaching job is coveted is DN.

The hire strikes me as a marketing ploy, designed to pacify all the alumni who were pissed off about McD. I also think it relfects the dearth of options Pollard would have had to choose from. Doing it quickly gives the staff a chance to fill some schollies before the 5/15 signing deadline as well.

I must be one of the few that actually likes this hire. Sure it's high risk, high reward but it's unique. It's better than hiring some also ran mid-major coach, they've already struck out there. If anyone understands what Iowa State basketball is about, you'd have to think it would be Hoiberg. I only hope we're never in a position to have to do the same thing with Josh Young, but if it came to that I'd support that decision too. Iowa State can't get any worse than they already are.

Drake already has a former player in the coaching ranks on Drake's coaching staff: JO. Although not the star JY was (I am guessing as I never saw JO play) he is known among Drake circles and putting his time at Drake and has hand in recruiting all the current players, and around for 07-08, and a part of the Dr. Tom turnaround.

I know a lot of people think there is something magical about coaching, and in a few cases there is, but I've always thought too much emphasis has been placed on experience. Hoiberg may be a great coach, or he may be terrible. there is no reason he should be getting paid anywhere neaar what they are probably paying him though. I'm sure he knows enough about basketball to run a team competently, but he has done nothing to suggest he is any more valuable than a local high school coach.

If Josh's basketball career ever stalls, I would love to see him hired as an assistant at Drake. He had a big hand in recruiting almost every player on Drake's current team, and I think he'd be a great assistant.....and perhaps a head coach down the road.

Now that I think about it, Iowa State would actually be IOW in Darth lingo......based on Illinois State being ILL and Indiana State being IND. I think we need to have ESPN start using these Darth abbreviations on the scroll at the bottom of their telecast.

WHA? So, a big twelve program gives a guy with NO experience whatsoever the head coaching position? This is a head scratcher.

ISU had some success under Orr and Floyd then some under Eustachy. It has been some time since they resembled anything like that but Clones refuse to accept that.

If I truly cared deeply about ISU basketball...I would not be too excited about Nurse in the head job. I agree he knows hoops, and can coach...but at this level??? Can you entrust a program in this condition (and this level) to a guy who has NEVER recruited, and never had any college coaching experience? If he kept Grayer on staff...that would certainly help, but I would sure feel every bit as tenuous about the immediate future.

From talking to some Iowa State fans, they seem to think that Iowa State is a coveted job, that they are able to go out and get a top assistant or a mid-major coach. I think Nurse is the best choice for their program, but we shall see what Pollard thinks. He hasn't exactly gone along with popular ideas lately.
