JY is also on track to become Drake's all-time 3pt scorer. If the stats I looked at are updated, he has 236 and the record is 241. [any correction to these numbers is welcome and appreciated!)

Sigh. I'm so torn - meaning, of course I'm so proud of him for this achievement but I'd really like to witness it. Like we said, it would be good energy for the UNI game. No matter what, I am so very proud and I do hope they have some sort of celebration no matter when it happens.

Just read through the DMR chat and saw this:

1) And look for a big Josh Young feature in Saturday's Register.

2) Any word on a special promotion for Josh's impending record breaking achievement?

Mark Emmert: Word is they're going to do it up big for the Evansville game Feb. 27, That's a Saturday and it makes it easier for Josh's family, etc., to be there. I'll be interested to see if they do anything in Normal on Saturday if he eclipses the record there.

I really hope we're at home to witness the record being broken. I know winning is more important than a record, however, how electric would the atmosphere be with UNI in town. An in-state rival situation, where the Bulldogs have revenge on their minds, and JY goes off to set the record, and gives Drake the victory!

Probably, as long as he stayed healthy. He scored 1328 in three years. If he scored his career average his senior year, he would've finished with 1771 points. His junior year was his lowest scoring year, but even if he'd repeated that scoring in his senior year he'd still finish with 1726 points.

Regardless of 1,2, 3, or 4 years. Josh Young is certainly deserving and is a great representation of the type of program that is trying to be built. Glad I was able to see it all. Class kid.

I think freshman were allowed to play starting in 1972.

Of course it's not a fair comparison. Look up Lloyd's scoring and rebounding averages for the two years he was at Drake. They're amazing.

Nevertheless, players now have four years to play, and most school have had their old records broken by players who have stayed for four years. It's kind of amazing that Drake hasn't had its record broken by a four-year player (almost) until now.

Yeah, the games he missed due to those injury "bumps" over the years certainly kept him from getting the record sooner... That's what you're referring to, right?

I don't know exactly when they changed the freshman rule. Melvin Mathis played for four years. He was truly a surprise. Garner couldn't keep him off the court. Drake has never had a player like Lewis Lloyd. And we are unlikely to have another one.

When did the NCAA start letting freshmen play? Young has probably already played in many more games than everybody ahead of him on the scoring leaders. It's amazing that Lloyd put up those scoring and rebounding numbers in two years.

Stop and think how many minutes JY plays and how hard he goes. Then think about all the people hanging and banging on him. Tired legs and beat up body. Experience tells me that he needs to take abit more time at the line and then focus. The other thing l have noticed is that he always throws the ball up and spins it and then shoots. Early in his career he would pause before he shot now he is catching and shooting. Just an observation here so check it out when he shoots. l haven't been at any games but that is what l noticed on the net if the stream is good. l still can't believe AT, RW, and JY can even run up the floor and the end due to their minutes and energy output.

Yeah, sorry. I got in a hurry this morning while I was waiting for the ice to thaw a little bit. I added the 10.6 ppg number early in the season when his scoring pace was below what was needed to break the record. Now that it looks almost certain that he'll break the record, I should probably just take that part out.
