Think you meant Brian Lillis from Dowling.

Talked to Frank last night, he had a lot of fun playing for his country. Ended up getting second I believe. Sure he didn't play much (did you really expect him to as a 19 year old kid?), but anytime you can represent your country, I would think you do it. Good experience at least.

Frank Wiseler's hair doesn't concern Mark Phelps as much as his play. But both are on his mind.

Last week, Wiseler, a 6-foot sophomore guard from Drake, wrapped up play with the Luxembourg National Basketball Team in the XIII Games of the Small States of Europe.

Wiseler averaged 3.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 12 minutes in four games. His team finished 3-2 while earning the silver medal.

What Wiseler didn't mention to his Drake coach was the hazing he received from his new teammates.

"As this was my first tournament, the guys shaved my head once it was all over," Wiseler said.

Phelps said he wasn't overly concerned with the hair that he hoped would grow back by the time Wiseler returns to the States. It was his recturn to the court that had him excited.

He's living life to the fullest right now," Phelps said.

I only picked 15 years because it sounded like the ages of the Lux team. I'm sure Hurl Beechum is beyond that. Johnston had a player who played at Lamar 8 or 9 years ago also. Forgot his name. Overall that would not make a very competitive D1 team.

So who would be on the Polk County All-Stars? Would there even be a dozen D1 players to emerge from Polk County over the last 15 years? There would be Greg Danielson and David Newman. Brent Barz played at UNI a year. Sean Sonderleiter played at Iowa a few years. There must be more, but names aren't really just jumping out at me. Can anybody think of others?

Some of these might be more than 15 years ago....

Iowa Christian----Sean Sonderleiter

Johnston----Jimmy Binnie, Brent Barz

Ankeny-----Ryan Sears

Valley-----Morgan Wheat, Andy Woodley, Matt Woodley

Dowling----there's been a few go to small D-1 schools out east recently, but can't remember names

Hoover----David Newman, Greg Danielson, TJ Welton, Ray Miller

North----Hurl Beecham

Lincoln----Josh Powell

East----Ashton Sauls

Roosevelt-----Nate Green.....there was another kid about 5-6 years ago who went to juco, then Cleveland State....can't think of his name......he played in the summer league for 2-3 years, and shot every time he touched it.

Urbandale---McKinney from Creighton, Templeman, Uhlenhopp

There's probably a few more.

There must be more, but living in the Twin Cities for 11 years puts me at a disadvantage. But how about Joel Templeman from Urbandale and CU.

Right now the Pella all-stars would be heavily favored over this bunch.

I would venture to guess the Iowa Energy could beat Luxembourg. They received 0 points in the last FIBA (world) basketball rankings and are not even ranked.

My own ststement got my curiosity up, so I did the math. Averaging 12 minutes per game (4 games, as posted on the thread), he averaged 12.4 points per game (not bad at all), 5.75 assists per game (could be a little better for a point guard) and 5 steals per game (again, not too bad). As you said DUB, he was the "kid" probably playing with veteran members of the team. Overall, the numbers aren't too bad...not great in the assist area, but not too bad, considering his "situation".

Also, DUB, if you project them over a 40 minute game, they actually are not too bad for a point guard.

Wiseler's stats certainly weren't overwhelming, but looking at these rosters, he's the youngest guy out there, and many of the other players are 10-12 years older than him.
