When will SIU announce he has been named Captain General and Player coach? This should be really good for you, If only Lichliter would have listened to Tony they would have made the NCAA tourney. You can get rid of that boring banging defensive style that Tony doesn't like and start letting him drive the lane.

If that statement about 25 schools contacting Freeman is true, does that mean that all 25 are dumber than Drake? As for the comparison to Nick Grant, I certainly would have rather had Nick Grant coming off the bench last year over both Baryenbruch and JMH.

Not all 25 are dumber, some may just be desperate. (see NM)

SIU is already loaded with guards...Freeman might have to really fight for playing time his senior season if he goes there.

The Register says about 25 schools have contacted Iowa about Freeman, and it doesn't say Drake is one of them. Iowa State, Illinois, and New Mexico are among the schools that have asked about him.

No more Prarie Chickin castoffs, that's what I say.
Anyway, wherever they're from, tough to build a long-term winner with guys who only come in for one year (unless, of course, they're the very very very top of the talent pool).

p.s. Thread-drift here, but I don't know where it would fit exactly. Now that I've been to Tampa, Cigar Capital of the World, I have some idea what you people are talking about with your "Cohiba" stuff. Didn't see any prices on them, though, so I assume they are of very high value.
If you're ever in Tampa again, Jackson's on Harbour Island by the Westin is very good, and not as pricey as some other places.
And, of course, you can't beat a $6 Guinness in a plastic cup, if it's served by the bay anyway.
Anyways, the view of the St. Pete Times Forum is burned in my mind forever now. The circle is complete.

Tony? The few times I watched him play for Iowa I did not care for his play at all. That's just me. There are some guys I just don't like watching.....think Nick Grant.

Drake had more of a transition game than Iowa last year, but otherwise they were methodical and fairly slow. Iowa played horribly slow last year, but they probably would've gone a little more uptempo if they had more talent. The main criticisms of Freeman I've seen from Iowa fans are that he made too many stupid mistakes, and he dribbled too much. If that killed him at Iowa, it would kill him at Drake.[/quote]

"Probably" would have gone more up tempo? Interesting. He has never been known as an uptempo coach. He has always been known as a methodical coach who made you play his game. I was really skeptical when he got the Iowa job. He's a guy I don't believe can succeed in the Big Ten.

I did not mean as a replacement to Josh Young. I meant when Young goes out of the game someone goes in for him. A guy like Tony Freeman would be much better in this position than a guy like Baryenbruch or John Michael Hall.

Also, there is nothing that guarantees that Josh Parker is going to be a great point guard. He averaged 7 minutes a game last year. In Josh Young's senior year, might not it be a good idea to get some insurance in case he and this no-name player from Texas end up not playing as high of a level as a Third Team All Big 10 player?

I have no idea why this is such a controversial debate. A good player from the Big 10 is more likely to contribute than some unproven JUCO player.

So if you could have, you would have prefered TF to JY this year? How about AE? AE created assists and opportunities, not turnovers, and with Freemans FG% vs JY's %, how many wins are you willing to give up? If TF comes to Drake, Is he going to want to be Team captain because he played in the B10? I think you wouldwant that base on your oppinion of him VS Drakes current guards.

Im affraid your oppinion of big 10 and Iowa talent especially, is way too high, and your oppinion of Drake and the Valley is too low.

But you missed my main point, I didn't say he wasn't talented, I said he's not a good fit coming in as a senior. If he started as a freshman in a Valley program he may have done very well in the Valley, but it doesn't mean he would be All valley just because he was third string B10.

Plus, Phelps plays a 3-2 zone, so the possibility does exist that those three could be on the floor at the same time. I am thinking of a similar setup to the way that Western Kentucky substituted this year.

Its tough to say a talented athlete wouldn't fit, but by 09/10 JY will be a senior, JP a junior our texas transfer a Senior and who knows who else will be in that mix. TF is pretty talented, but he's not that great of shooter, He doesn't create as a point guard at 3.2 per game. Hard to say a kid couldn't help, but he obviously wasn't adjusting to TL system and with only one year to play at Drake why do you think he would make a signifigant contribution? He's not going to start at Point. And I can't see him taking minuets from JY.

If he would have 2 years mayby but he kind of sounds like he wants things his way.

I think this would be a great get for the Bulldogs. A starting lineup in '09-'10 that includes Parker, Young, and Freeman would be tough to beat in the MVC. He seems to clash with Lickliter's coaching style, so I don't think there is necessarily a character problem. Plus, Josh Young appears to be the new leader of the team, so I wouldn't worry about this guy being a cancer.
