Mad, yes, here, but not necessarily so much directed at Keno personally .... but thinking how after all those years we had a beautiful year and now we're gonna go out on a sour note after all. I keep thinking .... it's us, the loyal long-term fans who stuck this out all these years ... not the players, not the coach, not the AD, not the president; they come and then they go. But WE get stuck with all the crap that has gone on in Drake basketball. Where's the compensation for us? I wanta hear Keno saying, a lot, how much he appreciated the chance Drake gave him. I wanta hear him thanking Adam and Klayton and Leonard for the effort they put in. I wanta hear what Maxwell has to say. I wanta hear more from Sandy. SOMEBODY should be talking to US. It's tickin' me off.

BB, I hope Keno does fabulously well at Providence so that our new coach can kick his arse in the Sweet 16 in two years.

In 3 years, Keno will be looking for an assistant coaching job after getting canned with a 30 and 65 record at Providence, he won't have DR. to assist in the rebuilding and the Big East is smashmouth basketball.

Thanks coach for the year we will remember, you may never have made a million dollars here, but you never would have been canned either, hope you like the big east preasure cooker with all those classy east coast fans and alums.

Thanks for what you could give sorry it wasn't more.

Gut, I love you man and I know you're a great fan, but get over yourself. Wish Keno well, he certainly has a warm spot in his heart for us. As does Dr. Tom, as does Dave Blank. Drake is not UCLA. Coaches and ADs will pass through -- not out of disloyalty to Drake but out of loyalty to their families economic futures and in furtherance of their careers. We don't need to hate them for it. Besides, we have an awesome AD and our new coach is going to be great!

I'm okay with the move. Better Keno than Josh Young or Bucky or something. People stopped being mad at Luke McDonald eventually didn't they? I would think Keno's departure would be easier to get over.

Y'all know what that call a gal that just does it for money don't you? Keno has joined that too large a group of coaches who are like those gals.
If Keno does not significantly improve the teams record in 2 years, you can be certain that the abuse may not be worth the dollars.

I don't know who started this Maxwell bashing, but it seems to me it is way out of line. This is a new era folks. SHC is the man! She will come through with a great hire, there will be enough money for the new coach, drakenation will calm down and next year will be all good. I'm not saying 28 wins, but even Keno wasn't going to give us that.

Mark this post DUB. I want this thrown back in my face next April so I can tell everyone I told you so.

Big Turk, I am right w/you. The problem we have now is that we are going to have to pay a new coach 250-300K just to get a look. If all this talk about Maxwell is true, I think the guy has to go. We are not an Ivy League school & let's quit pretending we are. We need basketball to be successful & this guy does not have a clue.

You're mad because you are afraid of how Drake will respond. I understand the sentiment and simply cannot fathom the pain of having to go through another Rudy/Kanaskie debacle. I trust SHC and hope Maxwell is not a roadblock.

I like the idea of a Pearle assistant. It keeps the Dr. Tom/Keno connection alive and it hopefully would mean a continuation of the same style of play.

If Drake is unwilling or unable to pay a coach even a modest salary (300 - 400K) then why bother be D1. We should then be D3.

Maybe he'll get to Providence and he'll freak out when he's putting on his friar robe sort of like dana altman did when he did the pig call at arkansas. then he'll come back.

Look, folks, its $1 million a year for SEVEN years. Let's not be too angry. Providence could not afford to be rejected by a third coach and still have any credibility as a Big East program. The put out a huge deal he couldn't refuse. Even if Drake pulled out a $500k per year deal to keep him, which seems to be about the best DU could have done, Keno would still be banking at least $3.5 million more than that over the next seven years at Providence.

He didn't leave just to get out of Drake or the Valley. He left for lifetime financial security for his family. Be honest with yourselves and ask if your loyalty to Drake is worth $3-5 million.

Plus, we all know how turbulent the coaching profession can be. Just ask Royce Waltman (2 NCAA Tourney Bids) or Barry Hinson (annual over/under win total of 20) how well the loyalty plan works, even in the Valley.

I think for those of us who have been following this team for 20 or 30 years, we would probably have preferred 4 or 5 more losses and a returning coach. At least I would. This is not like SIU where the program was solidly in place when they started losing coaches.

I suppose the little weasel will sneak into town in the night and leave under cover of darkness, never to return.

that's one way to look at it, but most of us would have traded our first born for a season like the dogs just had. i don't know how much of the success was really keno's doing, but it was one hell of a roller coaster ride. if the basketball gods would have said "we'll give you a 28 win season and a conference title, but after the season you have to give us your coach" who wouldn't have jumped at that chance?

I think it's good that everyone's so upset about Keno's impending departure, it means we care.
