I wanted to get a new thread for focus starting wednesday...

Gang, this game is equally huge...possibly even more so given the disappointing results at B. D needs to win one on the road to avoid a thursday date in STL...and there are only 3 chances left.

The big 'nightmare' in this one is Odiakosa. He turned it on big-time against B. If he's still on against D, I'm not sure D has anyone to answer him. If D is getting boarded by B and C in the last couple games, ILL could really have a huge advantage. Gotta drive the lane and make the free throws, plus possibly get this guy in foul trouble. D had B at 6 fouls forever in the 2nd half and took too long to get #7. Hopefully lesson learned for saturday.

Must avoid a 2 game losing streak!

McLeod vs. Knapp Center

So I went to the UNI game on Saturday with my boyfriend and his parents. I had never been so I was excited so I can officially review the two centers. Sorry to bog down the board with this, but I want your opinions as well, because I'm torn.

Seating
We apparently have more seats (like 2) and I think at first glance that is hard to believe because the McLeod has seating all around in one bowl. We have an upper level and the lower level has four sections as opposed to one all the way around. Does that makes sense? Anyway, maybe if there were ever a future building for the basketball program, that could be an option to add more seating.

Parking
McLeod wins hands down. They have massive amounts of free, public parking. And, it wasn't terrible getting out of the lot and onto the interstate. Sigh. I'm afraid we'd lose this round to any other school, though.

Atmosphere
They filled it, of course. But that's because they're doing well. Does anyone know what the attendance is like there when the season isn't good?! But one thing I found interesting was that every little thing, the fans were on their feet cheering. Even if a play ended by time out or whatever, and neither team did anything of substance, the fans cheered. It was weird. I was annoyed by this but don't know why. Want to help me make sense of that? Sidenote: I sat my Adam Koch's grandma and she was ADORABLE! She loves him.

Fake Boxes
They have some sort of makeshift luxury suites. I couldn't decide how I felt about those. I'm sure people pay a lot of money to be in them, which I find ridiculous because they don't seem very "sweet" to me. Just kind of cut out wall space and some seats. They could have gone without.

My boyfriend insists he likes the Knapp Center better (and he was a UNI fan before Drake fan). I love the Knapp, but am torn.

Your objective thoughts???

Overall, while they seem bigger and there are more people, we still bring it at the Knapp Center and I am proud of that.

I immediately thought of Larry Bird as the likely all-time leader, but it turns out he ranks third behind Oscar Robertson and Hersey Hawkins.

The MVC doesn't seem to post any comprehensive stats at its site. Here is a partial list based on a little research. Maybe some of the forum gurus can fill in the gaps.

Hersey Hawkins (BU 1985-88) ranks 1st all-time with 3008.
Oscar Robertson (Cinn 1957-60) ranks 2nd with 2973.
Larry Bird (InSt 1976-79) ranks 3rd with 2850.

Cleo Littleton (WU -- before it was WSU -- 1952-55) had 2164. He is probably 7th all-time. (Did anyone here ever see him play??)
Xavier McDaniel (WSU 1981-84) is 8th all-time with 2152 career points.

Bob Harstad (CU 1987-1990) had 2110.
Antoine Carr (WSU 1980-83) had 1911.
Kyle Korver (CU 2000-03) had 1801.

So, Josh isn't far behind.

Bracket Buster pairings come out tomorrow. I might be wrong on this, but don't they just announce some tomorrow and then more on Tuesday? Drake has current rpi is around 170 depending on which site you look at. That is WAY up from where it was 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, the computers take all games into consideration. The men are in reality a much better team than their rpi indicates. In any event here is a link to the home teams and away teams. What school does everyone want to play? They don't always hook a team against the closest rpi but rather in the general area of their rpi.

I was thinking about this last night after watching the game. We have lost 8 games by less than 6pts.

San Diego State 73-76 (OT)

@ Illinois State 68-71

If half would have went our way we would have been 15-10 right now.

The losses to IUPUI, Akron, SIU-Edwardsville, and Iowa hurt a lot. I know Akron is the second team in the MAC and IUPUI is second in the Summit, but they are weak conferences. Iowa is struggling and SIU-Edardsville is horrid (they beat a non-DI school, Texas-Arlington, and us).

San Diego State is a good team and we almost got them. Creighton, Bradley, and Illinois State were all fairly good conference rivals on the road. These were all winnable, but respectable losses.

It's frustrating because we have been playing well of late. Unfortunately, the close losses have really put a dent in our fourth strait winning record and a chance at a postseason birth (by mid-season, I would have been happy with the CIT or CBI). We need to finish the season 6-0 to guarantee a winning record going into the MVC tournament (5-1 would put us at .500 going into the tournament). A good seed and maybe we can go on a run in the MVC tourney.

Regardless, I hope we continue to play the spread/three guard offense next year. The last month has been much more enjoyable to watch than the beginning of the year.

Al Stewart was named the co-defensive player of the year in a league called the PBL.

He was also named 2nd-team all-tournament at a recent Eurobasket camp in Chicago. I think that's the same camp that Leonard Houston was MVP of last summer.

Al Stewart (178-G-83, agency: Rice and Rice, college: Drake) - Al was another one of the super quick PG at the ESL in Chicago. He was probably the most athletic of the bunch and was excellent in transition. He is also a great defensive player who would make a quality European team happy.

Roy Williams thinks defense is important..

It's the second time in program history North Carolina has dropped three straight games at home to ACC opponents — the first time came in 2002, under Matt Doherty. Those are days most Tar Heel fans thought they'd never see again.

What was predictable: Roy Williams continuing to be the Dick Vermeil of college basketball.

"We've got a lot of problems, and staying in front of the basketball has been one from Day One with this team,’’ Williams – who was tearing up in frustration – said after the game.. “And I really thought we could be a good defensive team, and we haven't shown that. Two or three games I thought we were really good defensively. Last game, I thought we were really good defensively … but we’re not really good defensively on a consistent basis."

Williams' credentials as a coach can't be questioned, but what kind of a message is crying to the media after a January game? If fans have questions about UNC's toughness, their answers lie with Williams' actions. Cry after you win a national title or lose in heartbreaking fashion in March — not after a loss to Virginia in the regular season.

Recently moved to the des moines area I have been attending games on a regular basis. Saturday against CU was amazing by the way. But I am looking into season tickets next year. Can anyone give me any kind of idea what they run. It has to be more inteligent then buying one online before every game it seems? Thanks

I know it's there right to sit there, however, we have the BEST Arena Environment in the Valley, samll and close to the court, when we are Rockin'.

The crowd is getting better because they are starting to BELIEVE.

Don't dwell on losses, don't dwell on wins. I'm with McB, I can't believe the hot topics are cheerleaders and Keno.

The scheduling may work a bit in Drake's favor with a home game on Saturday, rest day yesterday and 2 solid days of proactice before a short trip to Cedar Falls. UNI had a road game Sunday and must decide whether to use the required rest day before Drake or MSU. I'm guessing that since they have already played MSU and Drake is red hot, they use today and Tuesday to prepare for DU. Nothing like having doggy breath breathing on the back of the puddy tat. It's great to be a Bulldog!

UNI is hands down the best team in the Valley: experienced, tough, and well coached. They are a sweet 16 team this year. UNI is currently handling ISU Red at the birds' place.

I'm thinking looks like the valley is shaping up to be:
