Drake Baseball?

I am just curious if, in the recent past, Drake has discussed adding baseball. Drake is the only MVC school without baseball and college baseball is fantastic. My kids grew up going to WSU baseball games, playing catch with me on the outfield hill, sliding down to the outfield fence on pieces of cardboard, cheering the Shockers, talking to the WSU pitchers who were warming up, chasing (and sometimes getting) foul balls, yelling at the umps, etc. Baseball is a wonderful college sport and it is cheap (compared to football). Anyway I'm just curious.

I didn't make it back to Iowa to give a lecture and watch WSU play Drake; considering the outcome, I'm glad I didn't make it. My visit to Des Moines and to Drake in 2006 was very pleasant and I hope to return; the Drake students and faculty were very nice. I hope a few of you come to WSU and watch a weekend series of baseball on campus. If you are at least 21, I'll buy you a beer at Eck Stadium. A bit interesting that the most recent Drake Relays generated literally no Drake Nation interest. The quality of Drake's Track teams and Relays has been in steady decline over the years. At some point soon regime change would seem appropriate. It is a shame that when Chris Bucknam was contemplating leaving UNI for Arkansas that Drake didn't try to recruit him as Head Track Coach and Relays Director

While in STL, I got the chance to hear a couple of other school fight songs. Listen to these two pairs of songs and see if you can tell any 'similarities'. Even to my untrained ear it was pretty noticeable.

Just heard that Mark Kostek has been officially announced as the new, Vice President of the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau for Sports and Development. If true, I wish him the best of luck. Mark has always been one of the most approachable members of the athletic admin. He really seemed to do a great job whenever I've dealt with him. Always upbeat with a positive attitude and represented Drake in a great way.

"Garrett earning second team All-America honors is well deserved," Drake head coach Sean Holmes commented. "It's representative of what he did this year but also over his four-year career. I think it is both an individual and a collective honor for the team in that we don't win without Garrett and he doesn't win the award without the supporting cast that surrounded him and played collectively so well."

This is a great statement from Coach Holmes, he's such a talented coach who speaks very thoughtfully about his players.
