It makes perfect sense to me, but what a huge home advantage for the tournament.

RE: Rick Majerus wants STL in MVC

What's most alarming to me is the 5 days or so of class attendance in 3 weeks. Seems like the NCAA would look at that and say "this is ridiculous--fix it" to the administration, with the fix being moving to a conference with manageable travel. The AD and the university rep. for intercollegiate athletics should be freaked out at the number of absences being accrued.

RE: Rick Majerus wants STL in MVC

Majerus has been saying this pretty much since the day he took the job at SLU. But, I think the administration and their fan base for some reason think that they're above the MVC. Not like the A-10 is that much better, and the travel expenses have to be ridiculous, especially when you realize that most of those expenses are for the so-called non-revenue sports. SLU has probably been in 5-6 different conferences in the last 40 years, and never really been dominant. It's almost like they think that whatever conference they're in is bringing them down (like some WSU fans) and that if they could just get into the right conference, they'd be world beaters.

Rick Majerus wants STL in MVC

Atlantic-10 too much travel, trouble for Saint Louis

"We belong in the Missouri Valley," Majerus said after the Billikens whipped Fordham 75-48 Wednesday night, "if we care about the kids' academics."

...By Majerus' reckoning, after three weeks of the second semester, players will have attended classes for five days.

...Majerus noted costs would be considerably lower to travel by bus a few hours to Peoria, Ill., to play Bradley, or Carbondale, Ill., to play Southern Illinois — both schools in the Missouri Valley.
