Okay DUB, since basketball season is just around the corner, it is time to turn to more positive developments -- the Cubs off-season. Will Epstein go after Pujols, an easier target now that LaRussa is retiring perhaps, or Fielder, the kind of 20-something big bat that Epstein loved to sign in Boston?

An interesting article in today's NYT about Butler " A Bumpy Road Back "
"Butler commissioned a study that found that the publicity stemming from its Final Four appearances was worth more than $ 1 Billion to the university.Applications to Butler,a private university of about 4,600 students rose by 42 percent and are projected to remain at that level this year
The number of Butler games on TV increased more than 200 percent,and its licensing revenue grew by more than 400 percent.Its income from corporate partners and ticket sales doubled,as did donations to the athletic department,to $ 4 million from $ 2 million."

Does Drake really not offer winter term classes? The only other university I can find with the class I need to graduate in May that actually transfers back correctly to Iowa is Drake. Long story short I called Drake and they don't offer winter classes? What is this, 1950? Iowa offers several winter courses, just not the one I'm looking for naturally.

This sounds scary, but it's good to see the player's injuries apparently aren't serious. Hopefully no one else was seriously hurt either. Cedar Falls has some problems if a large street fight can break out right next to the university.

Looks like Theo is making his mark. I don't know if coaching was really a problem, perhaps, but with all the other issues it seems an easy out to fire a manager. DUB, are you disappointed that Ryno does not appear to be in the mix of replacements? I read that Ryno is being considered for the the Cards job. Would that kill Cubs fans to not only not get a shot at Pujols but then have Ryno take over in St. Louis. Kind of like when Sciossia got stilted by the Dodgers and jumped to the Angels?

The founder of the Library Cafe, a long-time fixture in the Drake neighborhood, is leaving Iowa, but he hopes his cafe and bar will continue.

The story says the owner is most interested in selling to the Full Court Press group, which could be very interesting for the property.

This podcast confirms why I don't listen to KXNO. Listen to 12/14, 2nd hour. P'errault and Rob Howe from Hawkeye Insider were discussing the mess in Iowa's football program. They wound up arguing like middle school girls, and P'errault ends the conversation by cutting his mic. It's painful and embarrassing, yet strangely fascinating. The fireworks start around 6:30.

Man v Food in Des Moines

Travel Channel's Man v Food recently visited Des Moines, and the show is to air on October 6. The places he visited were High Life Lounge, Jethro's and Black Market Pizza in Ankeny. The "challenge" was the Adam Emmenecker sandwich at Jethro's. It's possible that there might be a Drake mention.....not sure how they could do the Emmenecker sandwich without explaining who he is.
