This is a little off-topic, but Creighton beat SDSU tonight, and Evansville is rapidly closing a 17 point half-time deficit; they could end up beating SEMO after all.

I was working on the television crew for the UWGB/Cleveland State game and I swear that Cleveland State shot about 80% from the field. The number I saw was like 59.6 or something, but that seems really low considering that everything they threw up went in. Also didn't hurt that for being a team that seemingly shot the three so well, Green Bay could not make a layup if it didn't go through their big post player (#5 I think??). I mean they must have missed at least 10 bunnies, if not more. Absolutely awful. No way they do it again though I don't think.

It's hard to understand why UWGB didn't get in the NCAA's when a team like Florida State got in. FSU has a worse RPI and a pretty mediocre record playing in a conference that has a couple of good teams at the top but can't compare top to bottom with some other conferences (like the Big 12, for example).

Wisconsin-Green Bay (26-5) is an automatic selection after winning the Horizon League regular season crown with a 17-1 record before falling to Cleveland State in the conference tournament by a score of 90-66.

Yes, the lopsided loss in the tournament is baffling. I don't expect Wisconsin-Green Bay to be in too good a mood and Drake had better not start looking past them.

A few interesting facts about our bracket:

UW Green Bay, with an RPI of 53, was beaten in the semi-final round of their conference tournament by eventual conference champ Cleveland State (RPI of 134!). I'm not sure how that happened, but maybe their players were in mourning over Bret Favre's decision to retire??? First-year UWGB Coach Matt Bolant was formerly an assistant at the University of Evansville for then head coach Kathi Bennett, and helped turn around a pretty poor Evansville team into a conference tournament champion. He succeeds Kevin "I-like-to-have-tirades-at-press-conferences" Borseth, who took over a Michigan team last coached by former Missouri State Coach Cheryl "I-like-to-work-the-refs" Burnett.

If Drake (current RPI of 61) beats Green Bay, we face Illinois (current RPI of 65 -- and yes, they did get a first round bye, along with many other lesser ranked teams based on RPI's), which was 19-14 under first season head coach and former Rutgers assistant Jolette Law. Law was a standout point guard under Coach Stringer at the University of Iowa. Illinois upset Ohio State to get to the Big Ten conference championship this year. Purdue made a buzzer-beater to win the Big Ten tournament and get the automatic NCAA bid. Apparently, the Illini were expecting an NCAA bid because their website shows the NCAA schedule as part of their team's results.

I hope they are nice and schedule it around the Iowa State game so we can cheer on both teams that get the "home court" advantage.

Illinois State drew Oklahoma. Best of luck to them in playing against the Paris twins, who have to be smarting from their loss to Mizzou in the Big 12, and looking for a shot at redemption by making a deep NCAA run.

Seems like the Drake women's rep. has done pretty well as far as NIT seeding goes. Hope so again. Good odds on a home game, hopefully.

But, ya never know. Doesn't sound like Lisa Bluder got a great deal in the NCAA (again).
