I'll have to ask Paul Morrison about the building, since he was a consultant on the original Coliseum.

Bottom line, I think this type of venue is perfect for our tournament. I interviewed Doug Elgin at halftime Sunday and he said this (meaning this weekend) verifies we can make this a success. Whatever problems there were are minor.

One bit of frustration. I COULDN'T GET DIPPIN DOTS AFTER THE 12:00 MARK OF THE FINAL GAME THURSDAY. Give me Dippin Dots or Give Me Death.

My comment about the building itself was "I think the Coliseum in Rome might be a little more depressing." All of the staff that I talked with were very nice and were glad to have us there. They wish someone would buy the arena from the city. Every little repair they want to make has to go through the city for funding. I can imagine what that is like.

From what I understand, the Valley is getting some nice help with a new headquarters building, so we'll probably be seeing quite a lot of the place for the next few years.

Go, Scott! You hit all of the nails right on their heads. I am trying to stay positive because I had a blast this weekend, but everything you addressed needs to be addressed by the big-wigs.
Here's hoping for a great look in the NIT and a trip anywhere but Nebraska. Please don't make us go to Nebraska! (ok, maybe not anywhere...)

Believe you me, I heard ALL about it. I'd be careful yelling at Jordann's mom. I like her, but I think she could take me in a fight.

I thought the tournament was great. I think the Valley will need to pow-wow with the Arena management about their staff. The staff and concession people acted like they had something better to do. The arena needs a good scrub. And walking through the gate 5 entrance was like walking through a Phillip Morris party. Focusing on breast cancer awareness while having "the highway of death" cigarette butts outside the gates is a bit disturbing.

To the people that paid their way to be there (that doesn't include us free-loading media people), congrats to all of you. You were loud, your were respectful, and you represented Drake University in the best way possible. It was great to see most of you there for games that did not involve Drake.

I will agree that Scott is the best play by play guy around! We are spoiled. There is no one better
I listen to other games on the radio, such as Iowa men, Iowa women and today I listened to ISU women ( ok, I was bored!) These broadcasters are terrible. You can't tell what is going on.
Scott paints such a great picture and you can follow the game as if you were there.
We are so lucky to have him on our broadcast. no one works harder than he does and he is absolutely the best prepared guy around.
Let's Go Bulldogs! We need to get two teams in the dance!!!

If I'm not there, I actually prefer radio to TV. Watching on TV makes me too antsy. Probably a testament to Drake's radio announcers, too.
Although, I would have loved to see the end of the game in Springfield last week!

Thanks to all of you for your kind words. I do have to say one thing about the ease of my job. Laura Leonard is the absolute best. The best. When you have a broadcast partner that doesn't require you doing their job for them, it makes you better. It baffles me why she was not retained for the girls state tournament. They did not upgrade. They got worse....a lot worse.

My memory is not the best, but wasn't Laura an Academic All American during her playing days?

Forgive me for getting off topic, but one thing I remember from Skip Caray's days doing Braves games on TBS. They were in San Diego on a sunny afternoon. A very nice looking blonde wearing sunglasses was walking down the aisle. Skip says, "that's a nice pair (1 second pause) of sunglasses."

If he was any different, he wouldn't be himself.
He may be a homer, but it's who he really is. I know he has to bleed Blue.
This has to be the greatest season for Dolph since 1968/1969. It might even be better because of the wait.

While not totally on topic, I'll chime in on this thread.

Scott, you do an excellent job of painting the picture for the fans listening at home. That is a tough thing to do, and even tougher to do as well as you do.

I also appreciate your objectivity. You tell us when Drake gets away with a hack, travel or charge. That gives me some confidence that you are equally correct when a call goes against us and you say it is a bad call. Some radio teams are unabashed homers -- I understand that, but I never know from their call how the game really is happening. I know from the times I've heard your description of something I've actually seen that your call is accurate.

Harry Caray was bigger than life. Decent sportscaster, great fan, great showman, great crowd leader.
His son, Skip did the most amazing thing I have ever heard a sportscaster do.

In a recent thread I made a couple of inappropriate comments concerning th TV/Radio coverage of the MVC Women's Tournament.

Specifically, "Make do with the radio" and "Live with the radio".
That was a very poor choice of words, and I apologize to Laura and Scott.
They have done a great job all season and I have enjoyed listening to them for all the away games.

My comment was a reference to my personal preferences.

1. Be at the games. (Not gonna happen at the tournament. We do make it to all the home games, though.)

2. Watch the TV coverage. (Not available Friday night)
x. Watch on muted TV and listen to Scott and Laura
Added on the excellent suggestion of Grandpa

3. Listen on the radio. (Which will be done in their usual excellent manner by Scott & Laura)

I think Scott and Laura will understand my order of preference.

Certainly no disrespect intended.
