It was confirmed in today's paper that "Butler is reportedly debating whether to leave the Horizon League for the stronger, higher profile and potentially more profitable Atlantic 10."

It also says that Chris Collins says he is not pursuing the Illinois State coaching job.

Also, it anounced the naming of Kareem Richardson as the assistant coach at Louisville.

I wonder which team would be better if the Valley had taken Butler instead? Evansville definitely slipped playing in a tougher conference, while their departure resulted in loss of Butlers main competition, numerous conference titles and repeated trips to the NCAA tournament.

I didn't know that. Why would the MVC turn down Butler but take Evansville?

It's hard to imagine now, but Evansville was the better program at that time.

SLU beat Alabama today to advance in the NCAA tournament. SLU's first NCAA tourney victory since 1998. SLU has a huge fan base, a sweet new arena, rich basketball tradition, and smokin-hot cheerleaders. Majerus is going to push hard to get 'em in the MVC. The addition of SLU would raise the MVC from a B+ conference to an A- conference. We need 'em bad, and not just because it would put another annual Drake game in my backyard.

Now Butler is rumored to be courted by the A10, as a replacement for Temple. I imagine that would make St. Louis more likely to stay put.

Saint Louis coach Rick Majerus wasn't nearly as happy. He praised UMass's effort performance, but little else pleased him after the game and he delivered a memorable rant.

Asked about whether traveling back and forth to play Xavier on Wednesday before heading to Amherst had tired his team out, Majerus repeated a familiar complaint of his that Saint Louis doesn't geographically belong in the Atlantic 10.

If we really cared about the student athletes, and I think we try to, we don't belong in this league," he said. "I'm more concerned academically. The thing the travel compromises the most is their ability to get a good education."

don't be silly! mVC fans would be crapping all over themselves to get SLU in the M v c. Coach Majerus hasn't sounded off on the topic in year or two, But it will come up again at his next contract negotiation. SLU has a big fan base, great academic record, and would have natural rivalries with nearly every MVC school. it would be huge for the entire conference. The damn snooty priest who runs SLU is all that stands in the way.

I hereby retract any suggestion I ever made that SLU should join the Missouri Valley Conference. They have to clean up their act first.
