To me...gone is the notion that it is "critical" for us to get a "big." I think Van Deest has exceeded expectations (meaning...I think he's got the goods...to be an all-conference big on his own merits). Somebody that can step into the role that has been created by Templeton's desire and prowess on the boards and post defense would be a perfect addition to the guard-rich mega prospects we've got joining the ranks the next two years. Save the "big" scholly for the next year...giving great spacing two years behind Seth.

Will...the only thing missing is you letting us know that you think Drake is as great a fit as we think you would be. I was trying to suggest that since Will has attracted some attention from power-conference teams (such as USC and VaTech) it could be interesting how it affects his decision. It's much appreciated.
I suppose it depends on what you mean by "compete." This fall, Drake was on the final list for Michael Bradley, some sources of which say the young man's decision was between Drake and UConn. While Bradley eventually chose UConn, I would certainly say Drake "competed" for the recruit. Drake has a lot to offer that these basketball factory-like schools don't. You get a great education with personal attention from the professors themselves, not a bunch of graduate assistants. There is a family atmosphere on campus, President Maxwell routinely interacts with students. In addition you can come to a quality program that has a very bright future. All a recruit has to do is to look at the last few games and he'll get a glimpse of what the coming years will be like on the floor -- aggressive play, bodies flying up and down the floor, lock down defense, great outside shooting. Who would not want to be part of something like that?

RE: 2010 Prospect Will Yeguette

Tim.
The Valley hasn't seen anyone like MP for years.
He has shown he will compete with anyone.
I know Drake assistants recruit, but it appears that MP does the heavy lifting.
Two Requirements:
1. he has to want a good education, including a desire to graduate.

2. Here is his espn evaluation. I couldn't read all of it because I'm not an insider... maybe someone else can.

LINK
September, 2009: Yeguete is an athletic power forward with good hands and is a quick vertical leaper. He can finish at the rim before some players leave the floor. He runs the floor extremely well and finishes above the rim with a clear path to the basket. Yeguete scores mostly on face up drives from the high post area and from athletic offensive rebound tip ins. Yeguete competes for rebounds and does a good job pursuing the ball in or out of his area. At the end of drives Yeguete likes to shot fake in order to raise the defender in order to score or draw a foul. He does a great job using his length to be affective although Yeguete needs to add strength to be a better back to the basket scorer. He has good upside and is one to watch this high school season in the state of Florida.

May, 2009: Yeguete is a fantastic-looking athlete who is capable of playing either the small forward or power forward position at the college level. He has the ability to step outside and knock down the open 3 pointers or take his man off the dribble to the basket, Yeguete is more suited to play the wing, but he is also extremely active around the basket grabbing loose balls and using his physical style of play to handle the rough play in the paint. On the defensive end, Yeguete's length can give smaller guards problems making passes. He must continue to improve his jump shot to make him a constant threat from outside, and he will need to improve his ballhandling a little more to handle pressure situations at the college level.

April, 2009: Yeguete is a versatile wing forward with a good frame. He's not overly athletic but solid. He plays with a good basketball I.Q. and passes the ball well. He's active on the offensive end, works to get open and for rebounding position. He's a willing rebounder on both ends of the floor. During the tourney he showed the ball skills to play inside-out. He was very good from 15' and in, breaking down zones from the high post. Shoots from the elbow or drives to the basket. He doesn't try to do anything he can't do, just fits into the system. Defensively he is capable of guarding multiple positions. He understands his length and how to use it against smaller, quicker players and not get exposed. Overall Yeguete is a good solid player, his statistics won't wow you. His value on the floor is that he knows how to fit his game into the goals of the team. The combination of his versatility, ball skills and I.Q. make him a valuable asset.

RE: 2010 Prospect Will Yeguette

Excellent poteau, DUBulldog !

RE: 2010 Prospect Will Yeguette

Mc Bulldog (1/18/2010)
Will, Drake est un endroit spécial.
