Looking at the South Roster.. the Drake boys are the only players that would be considered southern illinois. Everybody else on the team is southside and south suburbs. So did Drake get the 2 best kids from southern illinois? (disclaimer: anything south of i80 is southern to me)

Southern Illinois is anyplace south of Effin'ham city boy.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? If it means he has Parker's athleticism and can play under control like Phelps wants, it's a very good thing.

5'10" and he can dunk? Wow. Hopefully the system played next year will allow for him to rebound too. I look forward to seeing a Springfield guy on the squad (having spent a few years there growing up, I have a soft spot for those from Capitol City)

Looks like Madison may have started practicing free throws. Can't play point at D1 level unless you can hit 80%.

If you get an "and 1" they've got to count the shot attempt because they are giving you the make. If you miss it and are fouled, it only makes sense not to count the attempt since you didn't have a fair shot at the basket (that's the theory anyway).

The win was actually over Peoria Central. Madison was 7-19 from the field, and had 9 rebounds.

Karl, you will get fouled a ton in the MVC in the last 3 minutes of games when you are helping Drake protect the lead. You need to shoot a hundred of free throws every day this off season. It's all about repetition, rhythm and concentration.

Hey, I meant to post this earlier, but for some reason, I never got around to it until now.

Lanphier plays in the Pekin Holiday Tournament every year, which takes place between Christmas and New Year's. They have for many years. I went to HS at Pekin.

My dad has been the "host coach" for Lanphier for a while now, dating back to the Andre Iguodala/Rich McBride days. I don't know everything that entails, but he's charged with making sure the team is in the right place at the right time, knows which locker room to use, works with the coaches to get them whatever accomodations they need, I think even helps secure lodging, stuff like that. And of course he ends up meeting most of the players and talks to them. So he's known Karl Madison for a few years now. He found out this year that he's coming to Drake, so that obviously got his attention, knowing that I went to Drake and am a fan of the BB team, making him a fan by extension.

He told me Karl is a great young man. Very polite, excellent student (straight A's), hard working, etc. Basically everything you'd want to hear.

And the on-the-court praise is just as good. He's a left-handed PG, as most of us know. He's lightning quick, has a great shot, good ball handling, good floor leader, and JUMPS CENTER for his team (he's 5-11)!

Basically, everything he had to say about Karl Madison was positive. I'm excited for him to be part of the Drake family and to see him in blue next year!
