It's intriguing that he is walking on. Back in April, under the old regime, this player was being touted as a scholarship recruit. I'm curious as to what happened between being a schoarship guy for Drake vs. a walk-on for St. Mary's. Or do you think it was a case of him being a high mid-major walk-on candidate all along?

GG, I'm pretty sure Anderson was going to be a walk-on at Drake, as we didn't have any scholarships open at the time he was being discussed.[/quote]

Agreed. Ranked#103 in Texas not that impressive. We graduate 5 next year so he does have a chance to play into and earn a schollie for next year, and we get a free look for a year and see if he fits into our system and team culture. I guess that during his junior year he suffered a major injury which set him back. Randy Bennett always has a place for the underdog/gritty competitor so for Trey to get a shot to walk-on and play with a likely NCAA team and top 30ish team is a great opportunity. Besides who would want to winter in Iowa or Rhode Island?

RE: Trey Anderson ... This thread was more of a "are we going to lose all our recruits" .. "the future is uncertain" ... "the unloyal, lucky, prack, Eddie Munster look'n bastard left us" type thread.

RE: Trey Anderson ... Verbal or not????

Greetings. My first post here. I found a roster update and found a name that I never ever heard of before. If you are like me - you never like being kept in the dark on a roster addition. Well, your pain is the Gaels' gain as Trey Anderson is being shown as a walk-on at Saint Mary's College in California. http://www.smcgaels.com//pdf7/137474.pdf

Randy Bennett in typical SMC fashion pulls another rabbit out of the hat and surprises us all. Wow.

I wish the series with Drake was continuing and perhaps there will be a restart next year. Come by and visit at www.GodisaGael.com
RE: Trey Anderson ... I did here that the kid from Texas, at a AAU tourney that he was in contact with coaches and would likely follow them to Providence. Any news on the Stanley kid out of Collin Co. Verbal or not????

Anderson averaged 21.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.0 made 3’s per game last season at Hebron High School (Link). Hebron finished 23-10.

The Dallas News named Anderson their boys basketball player of the week on 3/16/08. He averaged 29.5 points and went 21-21 on free throws in two games, so he should be a great free throw shooter. It says he’s 6-4, 185 pounds, but I’ve seen him listed elsewhere at 6-2, 170 pounds.

This is the search results for “Trey Anderson” on a Texas high school basketball forum. The only interesting thing is a few posts promoting Anderson that were written by a poster named iball23.

In December, Hebron won the Whataburger Championship, which is a six-team tournament that I think is more prestigious than it sounds. Anderson won the tournament MVP with 39 points in the championship game, a 99-96 overtime win.

The Dallas News named him the district’s offensive player of the year. They also said he just missed making the 15-member all-area team. They call him a quiet scorer, and say he “will make a great two-guard in college.”

He was recruited by several Ivy League schools. That’s usually a good thing for a Drake recruit.

HoopScoop last year ranked him 101st among Texas juniors. ESPN ranks him 22nd in his state’s class.

He played AAU basketball for the Dallas Mustangs. Wesley Johnson from Iowa State played for the same AAU team.

He was one of ten finalists in a 2006 model competition for The Dallas News.

If he makes it to Drake, he’ll be popular.
RE: Trey Anderson ... I would hope Trey is willing to talk to the new staff at Drake, whoever that might be and might still consider enrolling at Drake University.

I found an article about him being named the player of the week for his area, and it mentioned that his parents both played college ball at Washburn, in Topeka, Kansas.....a team with one of the most unusual nicknames I've ever seen....the Ichabods. Some further Washburn trivia....one of the MVC officials that Drake fans most enjoyed screaming at was Ron Berkholtz....also a former Washburn player.

Trey Anderson ...
