IMO Parker is a hellva player with size and a great head for the game. He can play at this level but he isn't quite there yet. I have confidence that he will work hard and play an important role while @ DU. As far as a schollie goes ... if he pulls a Bucktastic he might get one. Bucky was here 5 years and was hoping to get one his third year. He didn't get one until his fourth year. Who knows what the deal is as far as a schollie goes. Maybe he'll start for Drake his junior and senior years and still be paying a watered down tuition. There are many stories of kids who have played a ton at various schools as walk ons and even "given" their scholarships back so the team could sign another player. I really could care less whether a kid pays a partial or not ... I suppose if Parker's parents are well off, they prolly don't give a shat. Where is he from? .. Vail? ... I'd think to live there full time might be more exclusive than that slum up the hill from Booneville.

I thought Parker was an academic schollie?

I have no knowledge regarding his ability, but All-State in Colorado is not equivalent to All-State most places. I've eheard many times that Colorado high school Basketball is pretty bad. I think Chauncy Billups came from Colorado. Anybody else?

I think the Corey situation is like the Reece situation, for some reason, kids who demonstrate an ability to play defense and rebound but aren't flashy get relegated to third tier duty in place of either seniors or highly recruited players. Corey might help bang and rebound, Reece is the abslolute best backup at center, yet we again saw at the 16 min mark in both halves the other option at center being put in a position he is not capable of playing effectively. Very frustrating. Not saying Corey is better that AH or BS, but in an O for D switch, can he rebound or hold his own in the paint where some other can't?

I'm hoping to see him get PT. He looked really good in warm-ups Tuesday. I feel like his size would allow him to be more effective against big guys like SIU's Teague.

Can somebody tell me if Cory is a diamond in the rough? It just keeps nagging at me. His high school bio as listed on the roster web site seems ideal. Everytime someone talks about our guys getting pushed around under the boards, I think of Cory. He has the height and what seems to be on paper, more bulk than Hawley and Simons. Can he jump? Is he slow? Can he be utilized more? Perhaps in the next year or two? I know that we don't know what goes on in practice, so we don't see his skills on a daily basis, but, if I recall, in an early game this year, he had some extended time and made a nice showing. Can anyone tell us about him without conjecture or speculation? What is his true capability? If he played in summer league, did anyone see him regularly? I just can't stop wondering if there is something that is missing from his game. Once again, is he our diamond in the rough; that is, will he be a contributor by senior year, alongside Ben and Aaron and Seth? How good is he?

i first met cory when we were both in 4th or 5th grade when we wound up on the same team. during the next few years we dominated our league. i played point...cory at center. when high school rolled around i started paying less and less attention to basketball. i started to do snowboard comps cause i thought it would be more rewarding then b-ball. i knew we were a small mountain town and there was no way anybody would ever get any type of recruiting hype what so ever. im glad i was wrong. cory has worked harder then anyone i know to get to where hes at. he is truly a great baller but an even greater person. i know he will continue to work at his game and do anything possible to get to an even greater level. his basketball IQ is unbelievible. not to mention a pretty damn good overall IQ aswell. i honetsly think that this kid would be playing at an elite program if he were raised in a big city (not taking anything away from Drake of course). His stroke is almost flawless and his handling skills are of a PG. the main thing he needs to do is get his vertical up and improve on over all quickness. he knows this though...so thats why im confident that those things will not be a problem. i hope he gets a chance to be a real part of this team in years to come. if he is given the oppurtunity to contribute and shine he will. my best wishes go out to cory and all of the drake nation. i hope you all have a great year and get back to the big dance. i know ill be watching.

He's definitely enrolled and a player confirmed to me that one of two new walkons was from Colorado so unless anyone knows another player from Colorado that would walk on I'm guessing he's on the team.

Isn't it a wonderful change that we have all these prospects, both scholarship and walk-on, to talk about? It wasn't that long ago that recruiting news was just a recap of players signed and usually they weren't that great. It was a BIG deal to sign someone during the early fall period. Now we have 2 VERBALS. Who would have thunk it? A HUGE season like last year built upon the turnaround of the previous few years has taken our recruiting definitely to a higher level. Let's hope the new staff can continue the success on the court to keep all this interest going.

Yeah he's the old one you can tell by the hairline. He's also shrunk and inch over the past year.

The Denver Post named Parker its Class 3A Mr Basketball. His hometown Aspen Times has a nice feature story about him and the award.

I dug up a few older things about Parker.

The Denver Post named him their student-athlete of the week on 3/16/08 (during the state tournament). They have a profile on him where you can learn things like his favorite subject is biology.

The Rocky Mountain News profiled him before this season. He was largely overlooked in high school because his team hasn't "played a game within an hour's drive of Denver during his high school career, so he remains relatively unknown."

The Aspen Times profiled him before last season. It mentions the beginning of his recruitment (although not with Drake).

This has nothing to do with his basketball ability, but he wrote a couple polite letters to the editor of his local paper in 2003 and 2005.

Parker scored 7 points in a 81-95 loss in the Colorado high school all-star game. The story says he "showed well for the midrange level," which I think is a backhanded way of saying he looked good for a small town player.
