I was an undergrad when Bart was at Drake, he spent as much time at Peggys and the Duck Blind as I did, can't say but it might have made a difference. It did with me.

Could be because of how much Garner hyped him when he first signed him. Garner said that "Bart Fredrick will be one of the top 3 centers in the country by the time he's a senior." Unfortunately, he wasn't even one of the top 3 in the MVC.

Probably Bart Frederick in the late 80s at 6-10. Khary Stanley in Rudy's days. The Italian kid that never played...

In hindsight, Frederick was a pretty good player, although Drake fans always wanted a little more from him

The Detroit Free Press named Jones All-State for Class C. It has a little write-up about him with this quote from his coach:

"He's an outstanding young man. Excellent in the classroom. He's grown tremendously since his freshman year. He's increased his ability every year. At Class C when you have a kid that skilled and that big it opens everything up."

The Morning Sun named Jones its area player of the year. It has a good story about him, and about how hard he worked to earn a college scholarship. It also mentions Drake's breakout season, and how Jones wants to be a part of Drake's growth.

Jones was named all-conference. No surprise since he was also all-state. Said his coach, "Sean impacts the game more than any player I have ever coached. I admire his tremendous hard work and character."

Carson City lost an 11-point 4th quarter lead. Darn. I enjoyed following them in the state playoffs. Jones led all scorers with 20 points.

No surprise, but Jones was named Class C First-Team All-State.

Looking forward to seeing Sean Jones in a Drake uniform. I'm hoping he plays in the summer league in Des Moines this summer as well.

Jones had 19 points (13 in the 1st quarter), 13 rebounds, and 7 blocks in a 46-37 win over Muskegon Catholic Central in the regional final. The opposing coach said, "The big kid presents a problem. He's a nice player. He has good hands for a big kid." Their next game is a state quarterfinal game Tuesday against Flint Beecher.

Jones had 28 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 blocks in a 66-43 win over White Cloud in the regional semifinals. Those are great numbers, and I love this in the recap:

The local paper has a story on Carson City's regional semifinal game tonight against White Cloud:

Jones scored 20 points in a 55-32 win over Ithaca in the district final. 16 of his points came in the second half, and he made 10-11 free throws. Carson City-Crystal is now 21-2, and Ithaca finishes 18-5. The next opponent is White Cloud on Monday in a regional semifinal (they've already played 3 district games. How many games do they have to play before they make the start tournament?).

Jones scored 9 points in a 47-16 win over Vestaburg on the opening night of districts. It sounds like an odd game:

I like the coach slapping his hands together and then ragging on his kids about how they committed 20 mistakes in the 1st half, but they were okay after he got on them. Way to talk yourself up by ripping your players, Coach! Larry Eustachy would be proud.

Remember that Jones is competing in small school basketball. Carson City is class C, which is the third of four class sizes. With Drake's returning frontcourt players, I don't see a lot of minutes for him next year as he adjusts to the college game.

Yeah, but definitely needs to put on some weight before he's a factor in the MVC. With Cox, Heemskerk, Eaddy and White back next season, Drake can probably afford to redshirt him, if that's what they think is best.
