The tournament MVP easily went to David Brown of the Illinois Warriors. He had six three-pointers and 23 points in the title game and that was just the crowning on a fantastic weekend for the Warrior shooting guard.

As reported on Gopher Illustrated Saturday afternoon, Brown's play this spring has garnered him new offers from DePaul, Oklahoma State, Bradley, and Drake plus interest from Iowa, Wake Forest, and Marquette.

Probably not one of the greatest basketball prospects available, but is an interesting article. I wonder if Coach Phelps has any interest at all.

2009 Prospect Fernando Troya

This says that Drake is interested in Fernando Troya. In fact, it says that he signed a letter of intent to play for Drake, but reconsidered after Keno left. Troya is a 6-7 senior at Bolingbrook High School in the Chicago area. He averaged just under 4 points and 4 rebounds last year, so I'm guessing that if he signed anything it was a not-so-official letter of intent to walk on at Drake. He's originally from Ecuador, and will return there for a year and treat his time like a prep school year.

This story also mentions a couple of his teammates that could be prospects. The best is Troy Snyder, a junior 6-6 forward who averaged 11.9 points and 6.8 rebounds last year. He's heard from other MVC schools and his coach says his academics are "stellar."

According to the Daily News the James Madison Dukes could lose two perimeter players in 6-foot-5 Joe Posey and 6-foot-3 Pierre Curtis.....Curtis, who has started since his freshman season, said he has narrowed his choices to Miami (Fla.), Drake, Vermont and Wyoming.

I'm not sure if anyone else can read this article without a subscription but it goes on to say that Cory is hearing from Wisconsin-GB, Evansville, Utah State, and Colorado State. The main feature of the article is that he is visiting Drake ... not just hearing from them.

Like I stated before in a different thread, if Keno wants Mr Johnson and Mr Johnson wants Keno and Drake, I'm all about it.

Drake has received a verbal commitment from Sean Jones, a 6-foot-11-inch cetner from Carson City-Crystal (Mich) High School. Jones averaged 15 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.5 blocks while earning all-state honors last season.

"Trey Anderson out of Hebron high school thought he was all set to go when he verbally committed to Drake on Sunday night, only to find out that head coach Keno Davis has taken the Providence job. Anderson will have to see what is next for the remaining coaching staff at Drake."

There was h.s. msg board discussion last week about Drake's recruitment of Josh McCoy, 6-4 G from Fort Zumwalt South in the St. Louis area. First team Class 5 all-state.

2009 Prospect Mike Felt

This says Drake is showing strong interest in Mike Felt, a 6-2 senior-to-be guard from Redwood Valley High School in Minnesota. Felt led the state in scoring last year with 758 points and made second-team all-state. The founder of his AAU team said, "He possesses the ability to shoot the ball - a skill that's kind of a lost art. With the 3-point line moving back in the college ranks, his shooting range is going to get him heavily looked at and heavily recruited." Sounds like he would've fit in well in Drake's offense last year.

"Rudy Meo, (SO) 6-foot-4 from Evanston, IL, will visit Drake University this coming weekend. Meo averaged 14.7 ppg and 5 rebounds this past season. Meo has already visited UC-Riverside and Youngstown State."

Also according to "Bret", the guy who runs the JucoJuntion message boards, a young man named Royal Edwards has either already visited or is going to visit. Bret posted that he had spoke with Royal's coach at Yuba CC and he said Royal was in the process of getting his visit worked out. That was posted about 3 weeks ago.

Do any of you with connections know of any players connected to Arizona State that are now considering Drake? My buddy from Arizona says that ASU has a lot of good, young talent, and some recruits that are loyal to Phelps may consider coming to Drake because of the possibility of more playing time.

Also, does anyone know how this would affect the decision of Cory Johnson? My thought was that he was holding his decision until Drake named a head coach. I think that the Princeton offense would be a pretty good fit for him.

He is quoted as saying, " Ya man once I hear bout dose great recruits stats from 2007 who didn't sign I should be a shoe In"

Lyonel averaged .01 PPG, .002APG and no rebounds in 2 seasons at GCAHWJC.

Dusko Stojnic, 6-10, 215 lb center from DMACC has been granted a release from his LOI with Wyoming this morning and reopened his recruitment. Is Drake on Dusko's radar or vice versa? His numbers don't jump out at you. He averaged 3.4 ppg and 2.6 rebounds. Orv is quoted as saying something along the line that this young man will do much better at the D1 level because of the size of the players he will match up against.

Drake has another kid out of Texas that they are bringing in for visit, 6'4..180lbs sleeper. was hurt a lot of junior yr. aau so big schools backed off him...good student too. might have to walk on, but can flat out play. hits the 3... drives and scores of the bounce. Think he will visit school this month.

Does anyone know the current status of Wendell Faines? Is Drake still recruiting him? How is he doing this year? It seems to me that the last remaining scholarship for next year would be much better filled by a big man than another guard or swing man. Cox, Heemskerk and White will all use up their remaining eligibility next season, leaving Sean Jones as the only returning inside player for '09-'10.

According to both Rivals and Scout, Drake is looking at David Diakite, a 6-4 wing from the Washington DC area. Sounds like a very solid player.

This says that Tom Parks has been recruited to Drake by Rodell Davis. Parks is a 6-6 swingman who averaged 14.2 points and 4.6 rebounds last year. I think he played as a juco freshman at Sheridan College in Wyoming, but his story is odd and I'm not quite sure where he is.

The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil says Drake is among several midwest schools to inquire about Hallie Christofferson. Christofferson is a sophomore 6-2 post from Exira, Iowa. She averaged 22.3 points and 12 rebounds in leading her team to its first state tournament in 43 years, and this newspaper named her its Southwest Iowa girls Player of the Year. Not bad for a sophomore.

I don't have a Scout subscription so I can't read the article, but I can see that Drake is among the schools that have contacted Brad Tinsley, a 6-3 point guard from Oregon City, OR. Rivals gives him 4 stars and ranks him #93 overall nationally, so he'd be a huge get for Drake. If schools like North Carolina have also contacted him, though, I'm not holding my breath that he'll come here.

The super-freak athlete will take to the court on Wednesday night in the Georgia AAAA semi-finals against Westlake in what should be a tremendous game. Leslie has been a consistent 20-point, 10-rebound per game performer this season. If Columbia wins Wednesday, it will mark the third straight year Leslie and his teammates will play for the state title.

Leslie said he will focus on his recruitment once the season is over and Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Central Florida, Drake and Penn State are in the mix.

He will hit the road for some visits in the near future and a decision will be coming shortly thereafter.

But, if Drake is still actively recruiting for next year, what the heck does that mean?

Sanchez, a 6-7 forward from Tucson, Ariz., scored 47 points and hauled in 19 rebounds over two Region 1 wins for the Aztecs last week. In a 100-83 rout of Glendale Community College on Feb. 7 Sanchez posted a double-double performance by scoring 26 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. He also added eight assists and two blocked shots. Three days later in a 65-61 victory over Central Arizona College he contributed 21 points, three rebounds and two assists. For the two contest Sanchez shot 48 percent (20-for-41) from the field and 75 percent (6-for-8) from the free-throw line.

Craig Stanley, 5-10 from Collin Community College in Texas....for folks who have been following the Bulldogs for awhile, that's the same juco that Drake got Aaron Deeter from about 10 years ago.
