2012 Commit Micah Mason

Drake is interested in Micah Mason, a 6-2, 165-pound junior guard from Highland HS in Natrona Heights, Penn. (outside of Pittsburgh). The link says Phelps will visit him this week. I can't find much recruiting info about him, but he led his conference in scoring at 33.3 ppg, and he scored 64 points in a game earlier this year (on 17-19 shooting, 7-7 from 3, and 23-24 on free throws). Here is a local profile on him after his big game. I'm guessing he's a Wedel-type player; a smallish off-guard who shoots very well.

West Fork forward Payton Plagge received a scholarship offer last spring from the coaches at the Drake. As he enters his junior year of hoops, when will this talented junior make his final decision? Plagge talked to Iowa Preps about that and more now!

He's 6'7" from Sheffield, IA....

Drake and UNI show up as his only 2 offers so far, but it looks like several Big 10 and Big 12 teams are keeping an eye on this young man.

Does anyone know the current status of Wendell Faines? Is Drake still recruiting him? How is he doing this year? It seems to me that the last remaining scholarship for next year would be much better filled by a big man than another guard or swing man. Cox, Heemskerk and White will all use up their remaining eligibility next season, leaving Sean Jones as the only returning inside player for '09-'10.

Lincoln Vorba says he'll be a preferred walk-on at Drake next year. Looks like he's about a 6-foot guard from Mason City who averaged 17.1 ppg last year. Welcome to the team.

Robert Knar Only a sophomore, he is a 6' 0" 1/2 guard from Mundelein High School, who is shooting the lights out. He is playing alongside 6' 8" forward Ryan Sawvell, who is headed to Evansville. Mundelein is where Ben Brust, the former Iowa recruit who decommitted and ended up at Wisconsin, played. Mundelein is in the North Suburban Conference, where Lenzelle Smith (Ohio State), Brandon Paul (Illinois), Nate Johnson (St. Leo) and Matt Vogrich (Michigan) played within the past two years. Don't know if any schools are after him, yet, but this is a kid who should be looked at. He started last year as a freshman. Hopefully he will put on an inch or two more. I have seen him last year and once this year and will see him one more time this year, possibly more, depending on how the playoffs shake out. A big time threat everytime he gets the ball in his hands, and he has two more years to refine his game even more. His father is his coach at Mundelein.

Alright this one is a little more tenuous than some of the other postings on here. I work in the Dallas area and today while speaking with a customer I mentioned Drake and he told me that one of his son's friends was being recruited by Drake for basketball. I asked where his son went to school and he said Fort Worth Christian HS. Rykhoek is the only recruit I can find from that school. I have no idea whether or not we have offered the kid.

He is a 6'9" 215 lb Center and some of the schools associated with him are Colorado, North Texas, SMU, TCU (all offered), Baylor, Marquette, Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, Stanford, Missouri and Vandy. Whether or not we have any chance at landing him I've got no clue, just passing on my information.

Payne is the younger brother of Cully Payne, now at Loyola, who played previous at Iowa. Prior to playing for Iowa, Cully Payne had commited to both DePaul and Alabama.

I know it's ESPN and they're not the most accurate/up to date on Mid-Major recruits, but it's nice to see him listed.

6'9" 180 lbs (tiiiiny)
27th rated Power Forward

Strengths:
Washington is an extra long and athletic lefty power forward that is oozing with potential. He runs the floor effortlessly. Can finish drop off passes created by dribble penetration on the break and in the half court with length not strength. He is a good area defensive rebounder and can pass the ball over the defense especially from the high post area. Washington is an excellent shot blocker on or away from the ball. He is quick to the ball and does a good job protecting the lane when motivated. Washington also displayed the ability to put the ball down on the floor from the low wing and along the baseline a couple dribbles. Washington could be an excellent red shirt candidate in the right college situation.

Weaknesses:
Washington must add strength and be more aggressive. He has the length and athletic ability to affect the game more than he does. He must also work to develop his right hand and overall skills in addition to putting together some back to the basket moves.

Bottom Line:
Washington's length, athletic ability and mobility is very in intriguing. He runs, rebounds and blocks shots. He is raw offensively, must add strength and be more aggressive but his length and when his is active really can have an impact on the game. He has very good upside and could be a great redshirt candidate.

Guys, Wayne Kreklow, former Drake star from the late 70's early 80's? & now the womens volleyball coach at Missouri, has a son that plays for Columbia Rock Bridge, a highly rated team in Missouri. He is a 6-5 shooting guard, just like his father. Word in the Kansas City paper is that Missouri has already offered him a scholarship. Right now he is a jr. He has a teammate who has committed to Toledo. Do any of you have any info if we are recruiting him at all? I would think we might have some shot at him unless he wants to stay at home & play in front of mom & dad.
