"I see that cdgcreek is now a Forum Guru"

"guru", huh? First I've noticed. Is it based on numbers, or other characteristics?

Anyway, a scary thought, all round.

Has someone posted the whole non-con schedule here?

This letter to the editor was in this week's Cityview.....it will be interesting to see if anybody from Drake responds:

>>Drake is gouging loyal basketball fans
Until the recent gouging of men’s basketball season ticket holders, I thought the Sandy Hatfield-Clubb was doing everything right at Drake University. A modest increase in the price of season tickets would have been understandable and acceptable. However, a $150 increase per seat is outrageous. I sat through Drake’s 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons when they won five games total and were 0-36 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Drake should have paid me for going to all those games. I sat through the 19 years they did not have a winning season.

When things go down hill, and they will, the only people who will buy season tickets will be businesses not the rank-and-file. They will give them out to their employees and clients who may or may not go to the games and before long, the Knapp Center will only be half-full, like many prior seasons. Sandy, what were you thinking when you made this decision? This is Drake University after all, not Duke University.

We'll I'm not from Drake, but Id like to comment.
The writer does have a valid point. However, I think what she doesn't understand is what it takes to be a successful in college basketball for more than a couple of years. If Phelps has any sort of mild success, he has the potential to make more money elsewhere. Hopefully, Drake can raise enough funds to raise his pay as he starts to win on a consistent basis. If not, I can see Sandy being n trouble. Im know this point has been beat to death.
The potential for being able to pay a winning coach and achieve long term success vs. lower cost for games.

Another thought.. didn't someone post at one time the amount of money the program lost in previous seasons to this one?

I talked to someone in the ticket office about season ticket sales this morning. So far they've only done renewals and sales to most of the new priority season ticket holders. Most of the lower level side sections are sold out. The only remaining season tickets are in the end side sections (A and M); those are about half sold. Very few upper level season tickets have been sold. I have no idea how this compares to previous years before general public ticket sales, but it doesn't sound like there will be many single game tickets sold in the side lower level sections.

The Knapp Center will shake and roll this year. They need to get an inspector over there and check out the roof .. make sure it's secure.

Do you know the number of seats sold? That'll be the figure that tells us how well they are doing compared to last year.

I didn't get a number, but I figured the fact that so few lower level seats were available to the general public was a good sign. It sounds like few of the lower level season ticket holders canceled after the new donation requirement, and the ones who did cancel got their tickets picked up by someone else. Drake will still need lots of general public ticket sales, so that could be where sales are determined. Maybe Drake can boost ticket sales with fictional ads like Iowa did
