| According to Rivals/TexasHoops this young man commited to Drake on Sunday night. -
"Trey Anderson out of Hebron high school thought he was all set to go when he verbally committed to Drake on Sunday night, only to find out that head coach Keno Davis has taken the Providence job. Anderson will have to see what is next for the remaining coaching staff at Drake."

| I'm guessing that this is the young man that iball23 has been telling us about....he fits the description, right down to being injured for the end of his junior season.
Sounds like the young man has some game, and is an excellent student, too....perfect Drake material. I would hope Trey is willing to talk to the new staff at Drake, whoever that might be and might still consider enrolling at Drake University.
I found an article about him being named the player of the week for his area, and it mentioned that his parents both played college ball at Washburn, in Topeka, Kansas.....a team with one of the most unusual nicknames I've ever seen....the Ichabods. Some further Washburn trivia....one of the MVC officials that Drake fans most enjoyed screaming at was Ron Berkholtz....also a former Washburn player.

| This could be the recruit mentioned here. Why is JucoJunction writing about a high school kid committing?

I think I understand. Click on the story and it says it's from TexasHoops.com. It just showed up when you searched the Rivals network from JucoJunction. Sorry, it took me a minute to realize this kid is from high school and not a juco.

| Anderson averaged 21.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.0 made 3’s per game last season at Hebron High School (Link). Hebron finished 23-10.
The Dallas News named Anderson their boys basketball player of the week on 3/16/08. He averaged 29.5 points and went 21-21 on free throws in two games, so he should be a great free throw shooter. It says he’s 6-4, 185 pounds, but I’ve seen him listed elsewhere at 6-2, 170 pounds.
This is the search results for “Trey Anderson” on a Texas high school basketball forum. The only interesting thing is a few posts promoting Anderson that were written by a poster named iball23.
In December, Hebron won the Whataburger Championship, which is a six-team tournament that I think is more prestigious than it sounds. Anderson won the tournament MVP with 39 points in the championship game, a 99-96 overtime win.
The Dallas News named him the district’s offensive player of the year. They also said he just missed making the 15-member all-area team. They call him a quiet scorer, and say he “will make a great two-guard in college.”
He was recruited by several Ivy League schools. That’s usually a good thing for a Drake recruit.
HoopScoop last year ranked him 101st among Texas juniors. ESPN ranks him 22nd in his state’s class.
He played AAU basketball for the Dallas Mustangs. Wesley Johnson from Iowa State played for the same AAU team.
He was one of ten finalists in a 2006 model competition for The Dallas News.

If he makes it to Drake, he’ll be popular.

| From the sound of some boards, it seems like most of the recruits have not had a lot of contact from coaches yet, feel bad for the Weldon kid, but that is college basketball (no feelings for the players). I did here that the kid from Texas, at a AAU tourney that he was in contact with coaches and would likely follow them to Providence. Any news on the Stanley kid out of Collin Co. Juco?
Drake has another kid out of Texas that they are bringing in for visit, 6'4..180lbs sleeper. was hurt a lot of junior yr. aau so big schools backed off him...good student too. can flat out play. hits the 3... drive and score of the bounce. Think he will visit school this month. |
