I don't know, but the MVC is in big trouble. I don't know how we land a good team given that our top teams have left in the last few years. Very disappointing.

Definitely should add a private or non-football school. Unless we can get somebody who actually adds something should probably do nothing. Best of the horizon might help, but no real motivation for them to move.

Question is not what they SHOULD do...what is your prediction on what they WILL do?

based on nothing more than a feeling, I think they'll push for multiple schools under the guise of stability.

I don't think the Valley is in as much trouble as some on this board have said. Yes, losing Creighton & WSU to the Big East/American is rough, but I have no reason to think that even with 9 members we won't continue to exist as a conference for decades to come.
I kinda wish we would add a public and keep the 5/5 even slate OR stay at 9 and eliminate Arch Madness Thursday but weighing the options I see adding a private school is most likely.

I doubt we do anything for this season - then add a team next year. Hopefully I'm wrong and they pull something good together this year.
Regardless, I don't like any idea of going over 10 teams.

The only thing I'll add is there won't be any splitting of the state and private schools. No chance.

+xI kinda wish we would add a public and keep the 5/5 even slate OR ... The conference is currently 6 state schools and 4 private. When WSU leaves, the Valley would have to add a private school to make it 5/5. Don't know how likely that scenario is.

I believe they will add a private school but I could also see a basketball predominant school even if it has football. I don't see it as any major hit, WSU won't be on the menu. End of the basketball season some team will win the tournament and go to the NCAA. If someone wins a bunch of games during the year maybe a second team will also make it. Not any different than what happens now. The sky won't fall. Maybe Niko will really get it going and the Bulldogs will be have something to cheer about. Why not?

I hope it is a private or at least non-football school. If we want a basketball conference, there is no need to add more schools that have aspirations of being a football power. Many UNI fans have delusions of a FBS team. Illinois State seems to have aspirations of moving up in football as well. We don't need more Football driving the conference in any way.

I don't see Drake joining the A10 or WCC. Can Drake help build something comparable in middle America?

+xI don't know, but the MVC is in big trouble. I don't know how we land a good team given that our top teams have left in the last few years. Very disappointing. The MVC should consider Oakland University in Rochester MI. It has a strong basketball program, plays a tough non-conference schedule, and is located in a major Metropolitan area-Detroit. It would expand the league's Midwestern parameters. Oakland is in the Horizon Conference.

I have no fear that the MVC will continue as a conference. But at what cost? Will it be like the MVC is in women's bb? Look at happened to Drake this year, top 20 program, second longest winning streak, champion of the MVC. Seed? 10. And the worst 10th seed at that. The more the MVC sheds its top teams, the harder it will be for us to develop into a national program like WSU or Creighton. Its not great news.

If I sat down with you and Drakey for a talk of DU athletics, I think I would become horribly depressed in a very short period of time. Of course I could then turn to alcohol and join DT, McBulldog, and DUB.

Like any other time it depends on who you beat during the out of conference and conference season. If it comes to Drake getting seeded too low in the NCAA tournament in the future, you won't find me complaining too much.

If we add Valpo, Drake will no longer have the worst arena in the Valley.
